Google Now large battery drain

I had an issue with google now after updating to 4.4.

It's only happened twuce so far, but when I tried to use google now it wouldn't load up - it just had the refreshing logo along the top & nothing else. Then when I came back to my phone later I'd noticed the battery had drained quite a bit more than normal, so I checked my battery stats. Google Now came out on top, above the usual winner screen on.

Thankfully it hasn't happened since in a couple of days now, but i'll be keeping an eye out for it

Sounds like an issue with the refresh running and running - you could try forcing the app to close by hitting STOP in settings / apps / running, maybe.

I like it but just make sure you torn of hot word detection, it will MURDER YOUR BATTERY!!! To turn it off, long press on any home screen, tap settings, go into voice, and uncheck hotword detection

Try going into the system settings. Under accounts and sync tap Google. Tap search and it will take you to a settings page where the option to turn Google Now on or off is at the top, on that screen tap voice and got word detection will be there.

That just looks like the usual Google Now settings page, where the option for hotword detection doesn't show up. Is this a US only thing at the moment? Im in th UK

EDIT: I've just checked and the language needs to be set to English US as the default option. Hotword detection now shows up. Shame I cant have 'proper' English as the default :D
