Help Google Now no longer working from Home Screen

Has anybody else had this problem? I honestly don't know if it stopped working before or after my Lollipop update today. I just noticed after I said "Okay Google" about 10 times and nothing happened. The Google search bar widget looks a little bit different, but I couldn't tell you what is different about it.

Well, after a quick Google image search I definitely know what looks different about it; it doesn't say, "Say "OK Google"" in the search bar. If this is a Lollipop thing then I want to roll back.

Wow, thanks! I didn't know it had the ability to work from "any" screen. Before it would only work on the screen that my Google Now search widget was on. Now I can get rid of that widget and have more home screen real estate. And it works from the lock screen, too. Excellent.

Oh, I didn't even test if it worked from the lockscreen LOL :D and thank YOU!!

It turns out that it even works with the screen off. I'm not sure how the fact that it is truly always listening will affect battery life, but I'll take it.

??? really? huh...not mine, but then again, I'm not on Lollipop. Interesting.
Does it wake up when you say, "ok google" ?

Okay, so now I'm confused... Immediately after reading your message I tested it and it worked from screen off and went straight to Google Now, as it had done a few times before. I've tried it probably 20 times since and it's not working now. It still works from the lock screen, but not with the screen off.

Perhaps when you screen turns off, it doesn't go to sleep right away. i.e. screen off but still awake for X amount of time and that is why it worked when the screen was off/not asleep yet?

Well... I was just about to type a message about how either myself or my phone must have been hallucinating earlier, because I haven't been able to get it to work again since, despite trying many times. Then, just before I started typing I said, "Okay Google" and sure enough my screen turned on and Google Now popped up. The next word out of my mouth was "Wow...", and Google was kind enough to pull up a link to World of Warcraft.

I've figured it out, though. Don't ask me why, but it works if the phone is plugged in. I'm sitting at my desk right now with the phone charging on a USB cable that's plugged into my desktop, and it works every time. I unplug it, turn the screen off and try again and it fails, every time.

I can't really think of much logic behind doing it this way. I wonder if it was intentional.

It is intentional.

Go to Google app > settings > voice > 'ok google' detection

There you can set it in a few different ways to work, or not work. One of which is while the device is charging.

Menu/settings/language & input/voice search --is the "ok google" detection on? ("from google app" and "from any screen" both "on"?) Perhaps that changed when updating?
Hi I'm having the same problem that started this thread.
A lot of this thread talked about how "ok google" worked when "from any screen" was turned on. With my LG G3 too, if I have "from any screen" turned on, "ok google" works from any screen. However, I actually only want it to work when the google app widget is on the screen, like before I installed lollipop.

"from google app" is definitely turned on but "ok google" is still not working.

Any thoughts?
