Google Now: Sometimes doesn't search at all?!

So this has started happening to me in the past few days across all 3 of my android devices, including my brand new Nexus 7... And it seems intermittent. Basically, I click the search bar on my home screen, type in something to search in Google now, and it just doesn't do anything at all. Any ideas, or anyone experiencing this same problem?

I get a similar problem sometimes. I start typing in the name of an app or contact on my phone and it usually starts giving results in under a second but sometimes it starts showing web results way before it even starts showing apps that are on the phone... what could the variable be that makes it sometimes really fast at doing a local/device search and sometimes painfully slow?

Not searching intermittently I think is related to the keyboard. This was happening to me a short while ago. But since I got a keyboard update, it hasn't seemed to happen since. What keyboard do you use?

This will help with speed:

Google Now > Settings > Phone Search
Uncheck/check only what you want Google Now to search. For example, I don't want it to search Amazon, Amazon Kindle, Google Sky Map, Browser (stock), etc. so those are unchecked

Settings > Apps > All
Disable "Search Application Provider"
