Help Google Password Authentication error

bhaktasa

Newbie
This morning, I got the error that said that it couldn't authenticate my google account because I changed my password. But I didn't change my password and everything still seems to work. I just cleared the notification (the + symbol in the notification bar) and it went away. Anyone know of that happening to others. Is it possible that I have a virus trying to get my password for my google account.

This is the first time this has happened to me and I've had the phone for more than a year plus. Weird.

Could be a glitch, or someone did hack in to your GMail account, I would login to your GMail from a PC and change your password to be on the safe side

Did you do anything with your Google account? Like turn on or turn off 2-step Authentication? That will cause the password to come up, even if you keep the device-specific password the same.

I didn't mess with my google account at all last night or any night of the past weeks that I could remember. I did a couple of google updates yesterday (Google+ and Maps). But that's about it.

I just changed my google password right now and now I get the same error. But this time it is for real. "You entered the wrong password or your account has changed. Please re-enter your password."

But your able to login from a PC with your new password, correct

Yes, I can log in with my new password. Everything is fine, it was just the notification in the morning that got me asking questions. Maybe a virus or something.

I downloaded Lookout and it came up with nothing also. I'm going to take it as a glitch unless someone else knows something.

K, well you can also go into apps and go to Gmail, and clear cache and data, and then sign back into GMail from your phone, if it happens again

I have been having this pop up periodically today. Started this morning for about an hour, then went away. Then did it a couple of times this afternoon, and again about an hour ago. Logging in from the website works without a problem, and the Play store works, it is only when it tries to check my Gmail, and only with the built in email client. When I get the authentication error, I can use the actual Gmail app and it logs in no problem.
