Google Pay won't set up

I have an LG V40 ThinQ. When I try to set up Google Pay, it says "This phone can't be used...rooted or altered...". How can I get Google Pay to work? Below is all the pertinent information I have:Downloaded a number of root checkers, all indicate phone not rooted
  • Bought phone off of Ebay
  • Thought it was a factory unlocked phone, but model number (LM-V405UA) indicates it's a Sprint phone
  • Based on that, I'm guessing it was altered in some way
Other than rooting the phone, any suggestions on getting Google Pay to work

If it's telling you it's altered, its altered... Period.
You can try installing the stock rom for your device. Check the LG website for your exact device rom... And you'll probably need TWRP and Odin to do that, but that's beyond my knowledge

Thank you for the replies. If I install Magisk, will I lose anything on my phone (i.e. will I have to reset it?)? Also, I'm not real technical, so is it a pretty easy and straight forward process?
