Google Play has replaced the Android Market. Apps/Movies/Games/Books have all been rolled into Google Play

Ugh...they could have picked a better moniker than 'play'. I don't 'play' books or 'play' email apps...But I guess 'App Store' is taken, so...

I could have gone for that. It would have merged well with the Chrome Web Store, too. Which, I'm sure, will eventually merge into GPlay anyways.
 
Yes they could have come up with a better name then play. I was left slightly confused upon first seeing the discount listing's... I was left with the impression that these discounted prices were for some type of rental fee.
 
This seems to be a phased rollout. It's on my phone, but not my tablet yet. I wonder if there will be any obvious differences... like having the ability to rate an app from the tablet market, or removal of some country restrictions.

As for the name... sheesh! For a company and OS that is trying to make inroads into corporate IT, I don't think they could have chosen a worse name.
 
Ok. So I updated to play, actually bought some of the apps that are on sale, but now the market is gone from my phone. Can't see it anywhere.
Any one have any idea what the heck just happened?

It's now called Play Shop. :confused:
 
I also liked market better! Question, when my wife tries to download a paid app on the new "Play" it tries to get her to bill it straight to out AT&T bill, but when I tried it used my debit card. How can it on her phone to stop trying to make her bill it straight to our AT&T bill? She doesn't have her own debit card yet, we are currently in the process of switching from evil regions.
 
Horrible name!!! My wife and I are constantly going over the issue that my droid is a tool used to do work and NOT a toy for play!:eek::(:eek::(
 
I updated to Google Play this morning when told to. Now it does not show up in my app list (all apps or anywhere else that I can find). I cannot install an icon for it on the desktop because it does not show up in the list. If I go to settings/manage applications it shows up but I can't find it anywhere else.

I had it up for about two minutes to look for changes, closed it and went to look if the old icon had changed. It was gone so I tried to add a new one.:confused::confused::confused:
 
This is exactly what happened to me. The only way i can access google play is through appbrain. Once in, all my apps i've downloaded and all my settings are there.

So apparently the Google Market app is deceased and replaced with the Google Play icon with no warning from Google whatsoever. I tried clicking on the market icon and it doesn't do anything.

You would think a company such as Google would notify developers and customers of this.

I finally found my own answer. It is called "play store" not google play store so look under "p" rather than "g". I waded through three screens of help and introduction on the web site before I found the suggestion.
 
Play Store is not there. I have found a fix tho.
Go to AppBrain, browse apps, filter to new, eight app down is one called market. It restores to the original market. I've done it and it works.

I agree that Android Market was fine, but I think Google is trying to get deeper into the movie, music, books and games side of things.

On the plus side, I've noticed that I can hide all my previous devices from showing up which I could not do in the other version of the market. Since I've had a long list of devices this is a big plus for me.

Now, if they will just set it up so that I can change the list of installed apps and quit showing apps that I installed from Amazon as purchsed things will be that much better.
 
Had a look, tried it, all in all, pretty appalling.
Think my next phone will start with an "i". Way to go Google.
