Google Play Store will not start

On my phone Google Play Store (the short while ago replacement for some other named app' I forget) ALWAYS does force close when I open it.

I have tried killing it off, clearing data, clearing cache and restarting the phone. It always crashes.

I have tried to reinstall it by going to a web site which says I can download it and install it, but when the process gets so far it tries to launch the existing play store and it crashes and the process ends.

I have thought about uninstalling it, but I am not sure how I then go about reinstalling it.

I now have 8 apps waiting for update and I am worried that these updates will possibly be inter-dependancies to existing functionality (as things often are) and things will stop working properly because I have not done these updates.

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

Wow, you've tried pretty much everything it sounds like. I am going to assume you are unrooted? I had this same problem last night actually for the first time ever and ended up fixing permissions with my recovery and that took care of it. I am rooted though...

I can only think of two more things to try. Otherwise you might have to bite the bullet and do a factory reset...

1. Go into your accounts & sync and delete google. Then add it again. See if that gets you going.

The only other thing I can think is try installing the older version of the Play Store. Maybe you were installing the same version so it realized you already had it? It's a long shot but if you can get the older version to install, it will just update itsself.

For the last option should I uninstall play store first?
What is the best way to install play store?

When I tried it I googled it but mostly that only brought up the google play store site and not an option to download play store and when I searched on there it could not seem to find the play store app!!
Finally I found a download for it on some random site, which can't be good.

Re the other option. What is it that removing and re-adding the google account is likely to fix?

Unfortunately I don't think you can un install the play store if you aren't rooted. I think it's a system app. The link in my last post is for the oldest version. It's a .apk file which you should be able to click on and choose install. I don't know if it will work or not but it's worth a try

Do you have the option to uninstall it, or "Uninstall Updates"? The app in your ROM will be the old Market app, so uninstall updates may give you that back.

Now if that works I'd expect Play Store to reinstall, but it might work better next time.
