Google Play to replace Market

In case you didn't already know, the Google Market on your phone will soon be updated to, "Google Play". Android devices running version 2.2 or later will have their Market app automatically updated "over the coming days,"

I think the, "Play Shop" sounds a bit like... "The Early Learning Centre". Might appeal to 12 year olds though I suppose!

See here:-

It's version is 3.4.6, so its basically Market with a new heading/icon!
Good digging old boy. The AF Golden Spade for March will certainly go to you! :)

Should read... "This looks useful but who do I know dumb enough to try it out for me"

Doesn't look like Syd's bitting :D

Just given it a go and it hid root access from my root apps so no reason it won't hide it from the market, oh sorry google play shop.

Its easy to use as well. Just press the only button twice to temporarily unroot and then press it again to reroot

so basically I'm freaking out and I dont have to factory reset my phone to get the market back? I'm confused to say at the least. I am new to android, and any information about this would be beyond greatly appreciated!!!

Nah it will just update by itself.
I did have to turn my phone off and on again after though as the app icon disappeared and didn't get replaced by the new one.

What!

Google Play is now the Market. It's just a different name and icon.

It will update to your phone automatically over the next few days or so.

No one has mentioned anything about a Factory Reset, apart from you!

Take a chill pill and read the article in the first link, slowly and carefully. :D

Mine looks different from yours. Probably country specific for the front page. Its already updated I think. Had to "agree" to a new Google Play agreement when accessing the market today.

Seriously though, doesn't the market sounds like a better name? Apple calls theirs The Store. We call it Market. With Google Play, calling it "Play" just doesn't seem right. :D

You're right Russell Ng.

What a lot of people don't realise is that there are different Markets/Play for different parts of the world/locations and some with different content.

Knew about the different content and restrictions. After all, google navigation still doesn't work here. But didn't realize the screen arrangement would be different. Don't have the "Apps", "Books", "Movies" shortcuts on the front screen. It just shows editor choices / staff choices on mine.

Flipping the screen and going to the left will go to a place where browsing by those types of categories are available.

I think the old market layout was the same across region. Those look the same from screenshots I have seen. Only available apps were different. Still remember the OLD market?

:D

Damn you for getting in there first. I'll get the stuntman trade union onto you got stealing my job.

Seriously though some of us have a real job that takes us away from our phones once in a while - the yorkshire female beach volley ball team had extra training today so needed an extra thorough massage/rub down.....

Ps. Thanks for the heads up on this one, downloading it now :)

I froze my market updater app long ago, so I've still got the original market that came with the phone, it's fine as it was. None of this play rubbish for me.

Apart from the name, why do you think it's rubbish?
You may as well update in my opinion. You will probably have to eventually.
