Root Google Service Framework

Lurker
Has anybody within the community run into errors on occasion that relate to Google Service Framework? In particular, the error "Sorry! The application Google Services Framework(processcom.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

I've seen several problems cleared up by clearing data and cache on Google SErvices Framework. The only downside is it asks you to enable Location Services after a reboot. I've even seen it as a trick to force OTA's.

I'm sorry...I don't think I was clear in my last post. I've recently been tampering with the stock ZV5 (Odex) and went to town removing software from system/app...all excluding the system apps, the launcher, Nfc.apk, NfcHandover.apk, and Tag.ak using Artine's guide **much thanks :). With this being said, the ROM...if you can call it that...doesn't have much to it. When I came across the error, I wasn't that suprised. Google Service Framework usually unexpectedly closes in the event where I download an app from the Play Store...nonetheless the ROM is all around buggy. I don't know if developers here have experienced a similiar problem like this, but I'm under the impression that I removed more than bloat.

I'd say that's a very likely explanation there sir........*tisk*tisk*, tampering are we?

The stock ROM is full of bugs. That's because it's stock. Many problems from the stock ROM were corrected in custom ROMs. I do hope you're removing the apps with Titanium Backup, too :) Try removing/uninstalling Google Service Framework, if you can, through Titanium Backup, and then go to System Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Play Store -> tap on Uninstall Updates, and let the Play Store re-update itself over wifi or 3G, then all should be well.

Artine, I didn't use Titanium Backup. I took the zip ZV5 stock (Odex), removed most all the software (system/app) save the most important from your guide, wrote to the SD card, and boot. I also included giantpune's 'boot_12_05_15_12.img' and replaced the 'google' folder that was included in that same download. I was trying to whip up something where I could browse the Play Store and download apps I would need.

If you're going to get the benefits from the kernel from giantpune, you'll have to edit the installer so that it actually uses that exact file. If you didn't, you're not getting the benefits from it. If what you did was that route (ROM build), then I would think you should be fine. Why you chose stock over Aeneas or Hydra is beyond me, though, but did you try uninstalling the play store updates via system settings, and Google Services Framework through TiB, and see if that helps resolve the issue?

Yeah I never edited the installer at all...but I'm still able to overclock to 1.6GHz. I can boot, use the launcher and browse applications. Also, I decided to make this just to see if I could grab a bit of an understand of android and how it all works...I don't know a lot about Aeneas but isn't your ROM stock except with the performance of the customs like tagged and sleipner? For this ROM I made, I followed your guide on the hydra forum because its REALLY useful...it helped me a great deal and specifically for this phone. I'm hoping to come up with something to liking of the Elephant's Jellybean theme (status bar icons), but is light-weight and efficient.

It's stock, in that it has the stock apps. Nigh innumerable things between both Tagged and Sleipnir were altered to make the system much more efficient, have much greater speed, has plenty of bug fixes, and also affords up to ~60 hours of battery life on a single charge (and able to fully charge in 1 hour from 0%). These changes take place in the /system portion, and are vastly superior to the Stock ROMs. This is all detailed in the features list, as well. And there's init.d support, among other things. That's why I made Hydra available, it has the stock theme and stock apps, but all of the back-end of Sleipnir, which has its own changes on top of/in addition to what Tagged provides. And Tagged was built on top of Aeneas, which also has improvements in the backend ( /system ) over the true Stock ROM. And then there's features from the ICS Elite ROM that are different from the other ROMs as well, making Sleipnir literally 4 different ROMs in 1. And Hydra carries with it almost all of those improvements, omitting a few for various reasons. I'm glad the Hydra guide was useful, too :)
