Google Sync Not Working

It is the second day now that my Google cannot sync contacts. I am on Jelly Bean with a Huawei Y300, but I think that the make/model is irrelevant. I keep getting the message that 'Sync is currently experiencing problems and will be back shortly.'

My Thunderbird sync with Google also was erratic as it messed up contacts by duplicating some and completely erasing others.

I am also connected to Airdroid via GSM but sometimes use USB tethering.

I had similar problems with my iPhone and iCloud and that is why I sold that phone and bought an Android device. I am fast losing faith in cloud services.

Any suggestions of how to fix this error?

That message usually indicated problems communicating with the server, either due to connection issues or server-side problems. It normally clears up in a day or two.

MacLinDroid you're in Africa, which country? Could be government blocking of Google's services. Do you have a VPN you could try? That's what I use.

I'm in South Africa (a country all by itself, many people ask me what country in South Africa.....) and our government is slow in releasing spectrum but otherwise quite active in rolling out broadband access. No, they won't easily sabotage Google :D

This must be something on the phone, maybe, as my data syncs perfectly between Google and Thunderbird on my laptop.

I have backed up my contacts in Google online, then deleted all, then synced with the phone. Once the contacts were all deleted from the phone, I then restored my Google contacts backup to my Google account online. I then attempted to sync with my phone and it worked well.

The problem seemingly was caused when I deleted tens of contacts via Airdroid.
