Help Google Talk not working in Desire HD

Newbie
When I open my TALK app on Desire HD, it launches for a moment and then shuts down. this has been happening quite often now. I have not been able to open it since I bought it yesterday.
Please someone help!!!!

Figured it out... apparently, it needs enough free space on the internal memory to work. Once I cleared that up, it worked fine...
 
Hi All, need some help!

My phone is linked to a gmail account for the market but unfortunately this means I can only set up the talk app to the same gmail account! I have another gmail account I use for the real world :-) I'd like to associate to the talk app but up to now have failed to find a way to do this. Anyone know of a way to do this or a talk app that will work with multiple accounts?

I've had the same problem on my DHD too and it's worked only after a reboot, I wonder why, isn't Android supposed to be handling the internal memory?
 
Hi,

I faced the same problem on my Desire S. It was caused by my phone running out of battery power when I was using the talk app. Following the comments on this thread, I turned my phone off and the started it again, but no use. I tried force stopping the app, but it continued to misbehave. Then I Used the "restart" option that appears on the shut down screen. and now it is working again.

Thanks for the help and hope this input helps others.
 
Some times to do a full reboot you have to take the battery out for a few minutes.

As to the why.. I guess technology isn't infallible? Although I am sure there is a more technical reason than that :p

Not sure about phones, but in my younger, halycon days, I'd always leave PC's unplugged for a few mins before I'd start messing about inside them. I was told capacitors etc can still hold a little charge even after their power source is disconnected, so maybe something similar applies here.

[Nerd Hat] It's because any capacitors used in the phone's circuitry hold their electric charge until it's drained by the other components connected to them. In the old days, when huge capacitors were used in conjunction with high voltages, it could take tens of minutes for the circuitry to lose its charge and become safe. With miniaturised, low voltage devices like mobile phones, I would expect this residual charge to drain within a minute or two. It's not that the phone will still be running after the battery has been removed, more that everything needs to be entirely powered-down to ensure it restarts properly.

What I don't understand is why, from what I read here, it sometimes helps to remove the SIM card, unless it is just to re-seat the contacts and make sure it is properly connected. [/Nerd Hat]
 
But killing the Google Messaging service using Settings -> Services, and then killing the Talk application using Advanced Task Killer application worked.
