Google Talk = Push?

Hello, I am using the stock Google Talk app that came on the Hero. Does it work sort of like push gmail? I know other IM clients use up a lot of battery. I assume this is because there is a constant data connection. I thought I read that Google Talk uses a push type approach, as opposed to the client app constantly talking with the server.

Can anyone comment? Thanks.

I'll assume it's push (or magic). I have left it online for hours with NO battery drain

Mine is always on and my battery life is great. Uptime is at about 23% and Gtalk always shows me as available, so the "push" theory sounds good to me.
