Help Google Talk - Video Call?

vdubbin

Newbie
Any tips on how to make video calls from the Verizon Nexus using Google Talk?

Do we have to use wifi? Need to be rooted? Need a more updated "video" version?

No, no and no.

If the other person supports Video chat (Gtalk client with video, or on PC) you will see a video camera up top of the chat or to the right of their name in your friends list.

Click that.

Thanks. Guess I'm surprised its not working... my friend has a sprint HTC 4g phone, front facing cam & Google talk.... you would think we should be able to video talk. There's no option on either of our phones to do it though. I'm puzzled

THEY might need to update their version of GTalk then.

Just look around for the version of GTalk with video chat for them.

The version of Android will make a difference too. If your friend's HTC isn't running Gingerbread 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 then that option may not exist for him/her.

Works perfect out of the box. Tried it with my buddy on their laptop. I like all the built in effects. Pointless, but fun to play around with.

Is Google Talk the same as Google Voice?

I'm looking to get an app for video calling since you cant start a hangout from your mobile device (yet atleast).

Mine worked perfect, but I was talking to another Gnex. Seamless. Just pressed the little camera symbol that was there on Google Talk.

To answer your question... No Talk is not the same as Voice.

Google talk can be used to chat or video conference by phone or computer. Google Voice is more for phone calls and texts between phone / phone or computer.

Google has A LOT of tidying up to do here because it is confusing. Google Talk & Google+ Messenger should be merged. Why have both? On the computer you can Google Talk with someone from within Gmail. Or you can chat/video from within Google+ 's website. Then you can text people within Google Voice. It really is all too confusing. They need to start merging all these services and create some greater lines of clarity.

I'll check OS & gtalk ver. for my friends phone & see what we have.

Side note, girlfriend has a 4S and I set her up on Vtok... I'll let you know how that ends up

I drive a VW passat, used to have a MKIV Jetta GLI 1.8t. I miss it

My HTC friend is running 2.3.3 and gtalk 1.3... so guess no vid chats for him.

Thanks for the great input folks, helped me sort out if I was crazy or not
