Google update coming

This morning my bf's phone said "Google update coming."

I have the same phone under same acct but mine does not say this, yet.

Is it to let him know ICS is coming or some other update?
 
Really? Does he own an LG Optimus V? I don't have any sort of message. And it certainly wouldn't be ICS - gingerbread if anything.
 
No message on my phone. Where exactly did it say on his phone? That would be awesome if we were getting the Gingerbread update finally.
 
Yes he has a Optimus V. Idk where it displayed on his phone. He announced it to me as he was walking out the door for work. I will ask when he gets home.

So if we haven't gotten gingerbread will we not get ICS until after we get GB?

I remember when we got cupcake he got it almost 2 wks before I did or anyone else I know.
 
That would be cool. I run cm7 but I'm sure the update would only make existing custom roms more stable.
 
I think yall are getting worked up over nothing. If Virvin Mobile decided to upgrade our phones it would be something that would wipe out the root access and lock the bootloader. Before accepting an update make sure you know what affect it will have on your phone. If you have been around these forums for a couple of months you can see just how Virgin Mobile thinks on these matters. They want total control of our phones, and don't like us to have : tethering, hotspots, or root access. They took away the first two with the first upgrade and put in an "S" screen and messed with the bootloader(trying to make it harder to gain root access and install custom ROM's)
The bottom line is don't be fooled into thinking any upgrade is going to benefit you, after all, rooting goes against there terms of service(it is not illegal,it just goes against the agreement you entered into when you activated your phone,this is a legal and binding agreement) .
 
I am not rooted neither is the bf and we do not plan on doing so.

He said it showed up in his notification bar. I asked what did it do when he touched on it...He didn't. lame.
 
Well, I'm not rooted and I really don't plan on rooting. I was thinking about it at first, but I'm perfectly happy with the phone, so I would be pretty happy to get an OS update.
 
Any OS update they push will probably not affect none rooted phones except the ones with 2.2.1(they can tether and hotspots). It will most assuredly affect those that are rooted.
Don't expect a drastic change in the OS. It's not cost affective for VM( with there current business strategy ) to push an upgrade to gingerbread. They will just offer it with newer phones, forcing some to buy the newest version. Haven't you ever wondered why some "V"s are 2.2.1 and some are 2.2.2?
 
As posted in numerous other threads about an OS update for the OpV... if Virgin Mobile pushes out an update, everyone will know about it looooong before the update gets pushed. It'll be all over the mobile news sites, and VM would let their customers know. Just like they did with the last OS OTA update.

As for weather or not we will get one, unless VM isues a press release and says so, it's nothing more than an opinion. CSR generally do not have that information.

Was I asleep when the last (never knew there was one) "Over The Air" update took place?
It wouldn't surprise if that were the case. When did this happen?

This just means that there are some updates with apps he has installed on the phone and can be updated by going into google Market. This has nothing to do with any upgrade to the OS. At this point it is pretty safe to say that the V will not be upgraded (officially) to 2.3
 
I am hoping that VM would, at least, be thinking about getting Gingerbread pushed.

My fiance's Samsung Galaxy Prevail (through a different carrier, obviously) was updated to Gingerbread this morning and she is loving the new look.

EDIT: The Samsung Intercept (the last Android phone that I had) gotten their updates to Froyo in April, 2011. Too bad mine was bricked before getting that update. Oh well, the new LG Optimus V that I have now is a lot better. :D
