Root Google video

Has anyone rented videos from the android Market? Downloaded the video player from the market but it says movies cannot be rented because" the device appears to be rooted. " Was just wondering if the vids still work (didn't want to waste the money trying to find out).

You can play them on a computer or flash an alternate video that skips the root check... Its on xda somewhere let me find it for you.

Edit: ok here's actually a thread I started about the same thing a while ago lol, it has the xda link to the alternate google video that skips the root check: http://androidforums.com/triumph-all-things-root/471349-cant-watch-rented-videos-since-im-rooted.html

is that to prevent piracy, or?

Possibly, once you root your phone anything is possible, there might be a way to pirate videos that Google can't control, or there might not be a way and Google is just taking the extra security measure just in case it leaks and they have to fork up some money to the companies they have licenses with.

The thing about android is anything is possible even if it isn't rooted pretty much. Its still easy to pirate on un-roooted roms (not promoting it and don't do it, but I am just saying its not hard to do). I do not know why google has a root check IMO it's stupid since there are so many root users, plus someone will just make a hacked .apk like this.
