With Sprint and Google Voice you have to integrate the 2 so that they share the same phone number, that is why you can't enter a number on a sprint phone to use with Google Voice.
I know Virgin runs on Sprint's network which may be what is causing the problem. You should checkout the Virgin Mobile section too see if anyone knows of a possible solution.
