Help Google Voice crashes. Little help

I'm having a problem setting up google voice. It crashes during the setup. I get the screen that says:
We will now try to set up Google Voice as the voicemail provider on your phone. Callers to this phone......

I press "Configure"

I then get a crash screen:
Sorry!
The application Google Voice (process com.google.android.apps.googlevoice)has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

When I select "Force Close" it looks like the setup is still running, but is unresponsive.

I've removed and reinstalled the application but no love. Anyone have any idea what I can do next?

Thanks

Tony

I installed Google voice without a problem. I got only an error message that number forwarding was unsuccessful but it works. Maybe a stupid question. Have you setup your voicemail on the phone? I had to call my voicebox first to activate it.

First set GV as voice mail provider for your cell number:On GV,from your computer, go to phone settings, activate GV voice mail for your cell phone. You will be given a code to dial on your phone.

Thanks, you're a lifesaver. When it got to the point in the GV setup where it went to configure, I told it to skip (because otherwise I was getting a crash), and it dropped me back to the voicemail screen, and I choose GV again and it did some configuring. After that I was able to set up forwarding with the code from my GV page, which I wasn't able to do before. Thanks again!
