Google Voice Freeze

I use Google Voice as my main phone service.
When I try to make a call, it says "connecting..." sometimes for like 5 good minutes. Then suddenly it connects me.

What's up with that?

??????the END button does not work? Or the cancel button, if dialing through computer.
Back button, or something has to work. I use google dialer and have no problem disconnecting.
 
I'm using the google voice app (through the android dialer).
When this problem happen, there is NO cancel or hang up or whatever. You can click the home button and let it connect in the background though, but that's it, no way to cancel. It just says "connecting ..."

Next time you make a call, you will notice that the cancel/hangup button takes a fraction of second to appear. Well I'm stuck inside that fraction of second.
 
Have you tried uninstalling google voice dialer and then reinstallingit? Sounds like the app is hanging up ,not the system of GV itself.bet that will cure it.
 
I tried a re-install, and now can't setup voicemail using the *71<<phone-number>>. I'll see over the weekend whether this had made GV more reliable.

Now the *71 (busy/transfer) has to do with Verizon system not google. *73 will cancel.
*72 is call forwarding and also is cancelled by *73.
If you already have used either *71 or *72 Verizon system will not accept another until you cancel the previous one via *73.
So basically ,dial *73 and then try setting up your vm. Actually it should be working now because of previos set up and it just sound like the system will not take it. Uninstalling and re-installing google voice has nothing to do with it.
 
I hope you know the difference between *71 and * 72. These only come into play when someone calls your regular number and does nothing if they call your google number.
I personally do not use either because I use both numbers and both vm.
*71works on your regular number by ringing your phone first and if you do not answer THEN it will ring the number you added. It will disable your regular vm.
*72 will instantly ring the number that you added. This also bypasses your regular vm.
Now these features come in handy if you are in a place with bad reception and/or around a regular lineline. Times like this I will temperarly use the feature. Just have to remember to use *73 to cancel it when I am done. All calls coming to my phone are transferred.
 
I know in the set up for GV,THEY Try to get you to use the service so everything goes through GV but it is not needed. As long as you have your GV set up to ring your phone it will ring your phone and so will your regular number. I reserve the feature (you can only use it one at a time) for transferring ALL my calls.
If they call my reg phone # then they get my Verizon vm and if they call google# they get google vm.
I can at anytime turn off google number or block those who call individually. Only family and long close friends get my verizon number.
For everyone else there is GOOGLE.

This has happened to me a few times.

If using GV to dial out isn't critical (in other words, you don't care if people see your normal number) here's what I do:

*Note: I've only tried this with numbers that are in the same area code as I am, so ...

1) Use the back arrow key or the home key to go to the main screen.

2) Click on the Phone Dialer and enter the number you're trying to call WITHOUT the area code.
(When you exclude the area code from the normal dialer, during ANY call, Google Voice isn't initiated. Just a tip.)

3) Click on the green phone icon to initiate the call.

The call should go through your normal dialer without any waiting.

This is just a workaround, not a solution to the problem, but it helps get the call through without having to wait so long for GV to get back.

But I do care about the the caller id, as I use Google Voice as my main number now (i dont want people texting or calling me to the old number)
 
I feel your pain. There are times when the native Google Voice app just has a serious headache. My workaround = freebie GV Dialer. Pushes the call thru Verizon's network, while still showing your GV number. Con: have to turn it on and off, as it will grab every outgoing number when "on". Dev promised a toggle widget, but I've not seen it yet. Bonus: you'll notice the same number appear briefly on screen during the initial connect. I then entered that number in my Friends & Family, which nicely stretches my monthly primetime minute allotment.

Could you give me a rundown of the differences with the official Google Voice app, before I make the switch?
From the description it seems it doesn't include SMS...

Basically I use google voice for everything, I use it as my main number for incoming, outgoing and sms.
