Help google voice sms

Are Google voice SMS counted towards Verizon SMS? My Verizon sms is high even though I've been mostly using google sms

It depends on how you've set it up. If you told gv to send you your sms through the gv app on the phone, it shouldn't be going through verizon, but if you told it to send it to you via your carrier's sms, it will. I'll dig around for the exact settings to change it.

I confirmed that sms received through google voice sms are still reported as a txt message on my verizon account. Is there a way around this?

Disable the setting where it forwards every sms message to your account and only use the google voice app. Then your account will not get charged.

Goto Settings

Click on Edit on the phone

UNCHECK "Receive SMS on this phone (mobile phones only)"

and ofcourse only use google voice to send messages.

Alternatively, you can just call up verizon and tell them to turn of txting on your account

Thanks for the response.... I click on menu --> settings from the homescreen and can't find "edit". is this on android 2.1?

Log into Google Voice on your computer. Then click "Settings" and it will list your phone(s). Click "Edit" under your phone, and uncheck the "Receive SMS on this phone"

Then, on your phone, download the Google Voice App. Under it's settings, make sure you have inbox refresh and notifications checked, and you're all set.

I wish the built-in Messages app and/or Handcent SMS allowed for integration with Google Voice. Honestly, the GV app is a bit too basic in its functionality.

You can also get vblock to block all texting to and from your phone. I did this to ensure that I wouldn't get charged extra for any texts.
