Google Voice Users Post Here.

Dude, seriously... this is a message forum, not a text message. Please spell your words appropriately.

Dear Mr. ThaJack

I am sorry and apologize for offending you but I am on my phone and I was not aware this was formal. I will keep that in mind . Just for you.

Sincerely
havi007

I had to turn google voice off on my droid. I was bummed as I really like the voice mail to text feature or email. It seems that if I am in a bad cell area or try and ignore a call, people calling get "unable to complete your call as dialed, please check number and try again" anyone else getting this?

I have just one question. Is there(or not) a way to add your GV numbers to the friends and family plan to curb minute usage? Or do the numbers change too much..

My experience has been that Google Voice integrates very well with the device. If I place a call to (XXX) YYY-ZZZZ through Google Voice, and it uses (AAA) BBB-CCCC as the relay number, the original number, (XXX) YYY-ZZZZ will show up in the call log, as it should.

I get this for txt messages, some friends have my "san jose, ca" number now, I live in little rock, AR and that's my home for GV.

I've heard that voice might route your call through a trunk, which will show the trunk number. Think of it this way.......

Older office phone systems. ALL outgoing calls are routed through the trunk, which might have a number (xxx)123-5555, but the local extension is 7777.

Inbound, my number is (xxx)123-7777, but all my outbound calls show caller id of (xxx)123-5555. It's not in every area, my GV number is my outbound on voice calls, but I have a friend that had to work with this trunking issue. It's probably localized.

quick question about google voice. i have an account set up and have been using it for my voice mail, visual voice mail, and texting. here is what i would like to do and not sure if it is possible or not but i hope it is. i have about 10 very important voice mails that are saved on my verizon voice mail, the question is, is there a way to transfer these to my google voice mail account? i can;t even access my verizon voice mail. to i have to disable my cell phone # from google voice or is it not even possible.

This is fine if it's worth a few bucks a month to have a shitty user experience for your cell phone.

Add whatever the callout number is when you use the GV app (it'll show on the screen when the call is being made) to your friends and family. That will get you all the google voice features, free outgoing, and you won't have to jump through hoops to use your phone.

I get this as well. Whenever I try to dial my GV number from Qwest land lines in my area (651) I get that message. Calls from other mobiles are just fine. I've tried logging the issue multiple times on the Google Voice troubleshooting page, but nothing ever comes from it. It's also one of the most popular discussions on the GV Help Forums. Very frustrating to say the least.

I did that a month ago back with t mobile when I had the g1, the google voice access that's what it is called, when using the app the access number would add it self to the contact ur calling messing up ur contacts. idunno if that's the same with 2.0 or the droid now that I have it. do u know of the bug I am talking about with the gv app on 1.6 or the g1? That is the main reason why I didn't use the app because everytime the damn gv access number would add it self to the contact confusin the hell out me.

I've never had anything weird like that. When I dial a normal # from my contacts with GV app installed, it says "calling blah blah" on the bottom, then in a little white box it says "+xxx-xxx-xxxx". Call history, contacts, all that just show the # from your contacts.

R u sure on the free outgoing using gooogle voice app

I added that outgoing # to my friends and family and it accepted it. Checking my call history on their site every single outgoing call shows that number. It doesn't say what type of minutes the call used in their system, but my shared family minutes consumption seems to indicate that it works.

Hmm, i thought i pm'd someone about an invite but didnt happen apperantly since its not in my sent folder, nonetheless if anyone has or gets an invite, I would sincerely appreciate it and pass on the favor to others. Hope you all arent Droided out ;p

Thanks again!

I'm really interested in google voice and I just purchased my first android device. If anyone has an invite I would really appreciate it:

I'm an electrical engineering student I would really like to check out this service so I can stay on the cutting edge of things. Thanks guys

There is a post in the lounge for these request. I hate how every google voice post becomes people looking for an invite. It gets old after the 100th time you see it.

Regarding the problem that people were discussing, I have been called from a land line and have not had that issue pop up, it was directed to my voice mail correctly.

I am using Voice on and off atm because I am still on my dumb phone with no data so I pretty much only use it to text when I am on the computer. Next month I will try to use it as my main texting/calling app. Can I just dial contacts from the GV app? Or do I have to type the number like when you call your own GV number and then hit 2?

The GV application will integrate voice dialing pretty nicely. You can have it use your GV number by default using your contacts without having it ask you. There are also settings to have it use your cell # by default, or have it ask you each time you make a call.

Just wish the SMS integration was as good.

What is wrong with SMS integration? I just heard there was a 5 minute delay in getting a text.

For me it's just the simple fact that you can't load up the default messenger and send an SMS to someone. It'll use your cell's #.

You have to use the GV app to send messages, or you have to add in a special # into your contact that you get when someone sends you a message. You then have to open your contacts and select the special SMS number to send someone a message from then on. This is annoying because there doesn't seem to be a way to select this number from the native messenger app. It always defaults to their main mobile number.

Minor annoyance, not show stopping or anything.

Is that for just the default messenger or stuff like handcent too? I mean I would like to use handcent, tried it today on my buddies MyTouch, but I would be fine with having to use the GV app.

I feel your pain, and found this thread googling the dilemma. I've been trying to locate a 3rd party app which will use GV, but thru the carrier's system rather than data. To my knowledge, there are 3:

GV Dialer: nothing works but the donate link (see UPDATE #3 below)
--
AccuDial: Insists on tossing the looong coded string into the call log, even if contact in phone book used. Since I use my call log to assist with billable notations, I had to bounce it.
--
GV (Evan Charlton's app): This seems promising, but I'm apparently too dense to figure it out. Nor have I been able to confirm that it dials thru the carrier <<< essential for when I'm traveling by car, and data --even with Verizon -- is too shaky to permit a successful call.

Update #1: Found some documentation at Evan's site. Off to read now.

Update #2: Tested GV (Evan's). No data = no call. Back to drawing board ...

Update #3 (Jan. 5th, 2010)
Post #29 above asked about how to deal with Google Voice when the data connection is spotty. Great news--- GV Dialer has been updated to v2, and the developer is now very responsive. Once installed and activated, in its **current** form, all outgoing calls are captured by this app >>> Your GV number will then show as your caller ID on the recipient's phone, AND the call will go through the carrier, rather than data. Also, the call log correctly reflects the contact's name and number as it appears in your contacts book, instead of a ridiculous long string of numbers/codes.

There are a few problems with this app, however. First, you'll lose your mobile-to-mobile freebie minutes, such as Verizon-to-Verizon. Second, the all-or-nothing approach also ignores the fact that we are sometimes in a WiFi hotspot or within a strong 3G zone. I sent these concerns to the developer today, and he promptly responded. Seems several new features are on the drawing board, including an easy on/off switch for the home screen. My concerns will be addressed after the features already planned have been successfully implemented.

Bottom-line: The app is now free (no ads!). I've installed it so I'll have it for those flaky-data-connection spots we sometimes encounter. Otherwise, I keep it "off". But I'm definitely panting for the new features, as Google Voice will be a great e-friend with the assistance of this fine app.
