Help GoSms and Google Voice

So here's the deal: I went to text someone and got a pop up asking me to specify how to send it. I got gosms, google voice, and messaging. I had called this person from GV so I hit gosms. Did it send from GV using gosms? Do you see what I mean? Is there a way to tell?
 
If you use GVoice it goes out from your Gvoice#, if you use GO SMS if goes out from your VM #. None of it really matters unless you really don't want people to know or use your VM #, since we don't pay for texts on our VM plan.

But at present only the G Voice app cansend texts using your G Voice #.

Not sure about that. I use my GV for work and when I downloaded gosms it continued to text my coworkers from GV.
 
If I may add to this conversation, "But at present only the G Voice app cansend texts using your G Voice #.", @Lizm, this isn't entirely accurate. Here's what I mean. If you were to send a text to a friend from the Web Portal of GVoice, and then they send one back, (assuming you did NOT have the app), you will see a number from that that is a default. Starting with maybe 406, or 902, etc. This number is unique to that Contact. Assuming they are in your Contacts on Google Voice, you would see their name show up as the sender, even though that number you see is NOT their cell. If you text THAT number back, it would show on their phone as having come from your GV number. You don't need the app to send or call, just makes things worlds easier. Before the app, if you wanted the target to only know your GV number, you had to text them FIRST from online, get them to respond, and then save that number google assigns to them. Once you have that, you can send (used to be calling too) to that number all you like and they would never be the wiser.
 
The number google assigns to them isn't static. If it doesn't get used for a period of time (unsure of the exact time) it gets disassociated from that person.

This happened with my daughter and wife's number. I used to text them via the google number all the time and then stopped when I was laid off from work. When I started texting again I used their google numbers and they no longer work. When they texted me they each had new numbers.
 
Interesting, never happened to me before. And I've been using it since it was GrandCentral. Meh, learn something new everyday.
 
What I meant when answering the initial question was , if I send a text from the Gvoice app (or the GV web portal), the text shows up (to the person I send it to) as being from from my Gvoice number, 422-1234.

If I send a text from GoSMS, it shows up (to the person I send it to) as being from my VM #, 587-1234.

I do not know a way, and I do not think it is possible, to send a text from GoSMS that shows up (to the person I send it to) using GV, as being from 422-1234.

When I set up GoSMS initially it did not ask me which service I want to use to send texts, GV or VM. Possibly if you set up your phone to only use GV it's possible?
 
I was just nosing around the settings for Google voice and see there is an option to send text to SMS app. I haven't tried it yet though, will tonight when my wife gets home.

Well there is... you need that number. I call it a 'floating number" lol. Have them send you a text in reply to one you sent from the Web Portal. You will see that number Google assigns them. If you text THAT number FROM GoSmS, it will appear from your Gvoice. GoSmS is only an Overlay, if you will. If is not a texting app in itself. It only acts as a medium, so-to-speak. It does nothing that your Stock app wouldnt do. (Obviously minus the bells and whistles). I am not telling you this and simply guessing. I have GoSmS currently, and GVoice. I do exactly what I have just told you, and the person isn't the wiser that the number he is texting is NOT my real number.

I did that for a while with the 'floating number' (since grand central), and about the 3rd or 4th time Google changed all of the numbers, I ditched all of the sms apps and just started using the Google Voice app.. since it has gotten a lot better. But I miss popup notifications and quick reply... can't believe there's not a solution for that yet.
 
I, too, Decalex, am shocked that no genius has come up with a way to get a quick-popup-and-reply using GV.

Isn't there some way to make this and sell it?

I'd buy an app to do this in a heartbeat.
 
It is not a pop-up I am missing so much as it is the ability to send GV SMSes via GOSMS or the like.

I also would like to see GO SMS send via GV due to the following factors -
1. I specifically went went with GV (and droid ) years ago because one of the factors was that GV didn't charge for texts ( it also +++ on a lot of other great things ) - nonetheless - GOSMS from my VM costs text fees -
2. I've been playing with GO SMS and now that I have the GS3 it actually works well ( not so good on the DX

does anyone know how to tell GOSMS to send via GV ?? any threads to look at ?

When I go to send an SMS via Google Voice it now asks how I want to complete the action:
Google Voice
HandSent
or when I had it installed GoSMS

I *Think* u might have to be rooted, but check out his other products.


It's not perfect.. but it most likely works for your need, alone.
I paid for it when he released a new update.. but haven't had any updates since then. My issues with it may be ROM related.. but that's not the dev's fault.
