Got It......It's fast....it's really REALLY fast...

The main thing is that the screen is capable of picking up multitouch... one would hope that later software updates would incorporate it since the hardware can support it.

I didn't see this answered but can the ATT user tell me if the n1 allows for surfing on edge while on the phone? i'd be willing to accept the slower network as long as it does :)

This is a limitation of EDGE. The iPhone wasn't able to do voice and data until the 3G model.

Thanks for the reply.

The issue I ran into is when the phone was in "Normal" mode I opened settings and adjusted the Silent mode to vibrate. By default it doesn't vibrate. If I switched the phone to Silent mode in the settings app it would vibrate when a call came in. If I switched it to silent mode from the lock screen it wouldn't vibrate when a call came in.

Is this still the case?

Also is the typing on the N1 better than the video of the Droid from engadget?

Another person asked me about the media player. To be 100% honest, I don't know if it changed much at all. I never opened it on my uk Hero more then maybe 2 times and 1 time on this N1. I use my iphone as my ipod, so I have no use for another media player.

As for the power button and the headphone jack....the power button is on the far left and is the same size as the iphone power button. The headphone jack is on the far right.

I don't know much to comment on the Droid because I've only played with it a few times.

Can you be more specific with the vibrating and mute question please? There are multiple shortcuts to muting the phone and vibration etc...it's a tiny bit confusing to be honest. On the home screen if you turn off the sound it will also turn off the vibration.

The typing looks very similar but slightly different. Definitely has the same feature at the bottom where it presents you with word options to select. Down where the comma is on the Droid, is a microphone on the N1. With the N1 you have the option to speak to text which is cool. Works really well and you can adjust the speed in which you like to talk, so that it picks up well.

Haven't really figured out the whole silent mode, vs vibrate etc. There are multiple areas to do it, so as I figure the phone out more in the real world I'll keep you posted. In the N1, when you select silent mode you can't bury in to it to have additional settings like vibrate etc. They are different options you can select one by one within the Sounds and Display area.

thanks so much for all the answers.
Questions:

-does it have a LED indicator for when the phone is in sleep mode but you want to check if you received any messages/e-mails without unlocking it(G1 had this, I didn't know I missed it until I got a Behold 2....)

-are all keys besides the trackpad touch keys? meaning the four keys are physical or just on the screen sensitive to your touch?
Answer/ hang up keys are just touch screen keys correct?

-how would you rate the loud speaker? not for music but for actual phone conversations ? is it decent at least?

-give the nexus one and the iphone a grade - 1 to 10.

Thanks a lot! And thanks for bearing with people first thinking you were a fake and then saying 'no wonder google fired you, you are giving away too much info' ! Kinda demonstrates you can never make everyone happy...

I didn't want to sign up, but 3rd geer now you made me. lol. Since you're being kind enough to share information, I'll share some with you as well. The reason I signed up was because you stated your iphone ear piece isn't working and only the speaker works while on a call. Did you happen to be using your headphones right before??

This actually happens to me quite a bit after I workout at the gym and use my phone as an ipod. Solution: Plug your headphones back in and unplug them. you can confirm if it now works by bringing up the music player and seeing if it works without headphones on. Keep plugging them in and unplugging until it works, usually will take a few tries. What happens is that the iPhone thinks it's still has headphones plugged in when in reality that's not that case. Hope this helps.

I'm only about 15 minutes in on toying with it so I'll post with additional information.

Wow....as as I stated it's BLAZING fast. Honestly it puts my 3G iPhone and UK Hero to SHAME!!!!

Popped in my ATT sim, and I seem to be running completely fine. No tweaking like I had to do with my Hero to allow it to run smoothly.

As for the animated backgrounds there are 10 of them. I ended up choses Grass which is pretty sweet. The color of the sky changes due to the time of day, which is cool, and the blads of grass blow left and right. You can also chose, Galaxy, Magic SMoke, Many, Nexus, Polar Clock, Spectrum, VU meter, Water, and Waveform.

Odd thing is, I can't seem to find where the ringtones are which is odd.

As for the headphone questions going around...they are identical to the Hero headphones, except in black with the android logo on the side of it.

Still toying around with it, but I'm definitely open to questions.

Hopefully the pics were attached to this post...if not I'll try again.
So ATT is just Edge?

I'll answer your questions from top to bottom.

1. Yes. You can check it at the top of the phone.
2. It's actually a part of the screen. Like the Droid...when you touch it you can set it to vibrate, use sound, or nothing at all. It bothered me a bit at first but I'm pretty used to it now.
3. It's pretty good..I used it for a first time today while driving. It's a little louder then my iphone for sure.
4. It's really tough to rate them.....but I'd say N1 - 9, iphone 8

Where the N1 wins is screen sharpness, speed, and I personally think the UI is way sexier.

Where the iphone wins is it's media player. Hands down no music player can compete with the flow, UI, etc.

Hopefully this helps.

Thanks so much man. So this happens actually with calls. I tried your solution but no luck. When I make a call, I can't hear anything unless I jump in to speaker phone mode....tried what you were saying...nada though..darn! Thanks.

I'm confident if you keep trying it will work. This has actually happened to a few friends as well. When it first happened to me I was freaking out because I could only use the speaker during calls, but I found this solution on a forum. Try unplugging the headphones slowly or fast. Try different methods. It'll work! Trust!

-Answer / Hang up keys instead are on the bottom left / right of the phone but they are not labeled - correct? are they 'touch' keys as well?

-Also, size wise, how do you compare it to the iphone? do you feel it's in anyway bigger / bulkier than the iphone, or you like the feel/size just as much/better?

-any major issue with UI so far? (being that is a new version 2.1....)

so far i think we have a winner...

No....hang ups are not on the bottom left/right. The 4 buttons on the bottom are Back, Menu, Home, Search....then the track ball below.

Same width, the N1 is slightly longer and slightly thinner. It definitely feels like a thinner device in your hands but it's a bit deceiving. Feels a lot better because it really sticks to your hand with the rubbery feel on the back. The iphone is pretty slippery.

No UI issues...I ran in to one late last night. My email wouldn't show anything at all...I had to delete the account and add it again. Other then that...NADA....works great.

Like I said earlier...if I could rename the device it would be THE MESSIAH

Oh yeah is the keyboard multi-touch enable? Like for example while holding down the "D" key with your thumb, are you able to input other letters with your other thumb while still holding the "D" key.

So to let's say make a call you would dial the phone number on the screen and then hit send on the screen as well / hang up on the screen as well?
Nothing on the right / left of the trackball.

MESSIAH it is !

When I do that it repeats the letter D...so it starts to look like:
Ddddddd

Right...so when you dial a number the send button is centered on the screen below the number pad. When you select it, you jump to a seperate screen when the number is being dialed and your hang up button is there.

There is nothing to the left or right side of the trackball. It sits at the bottom of the MESSIAH by itself.

Hi.
Been reading this thread and registered and wanted to chime in... :)
3rd geer : I have a few questions if you would answer please.

1. Do you have to take out the battery to change sd cards? ( i think yes but i want a confirmation)

2. I know the nexus screen is taller than the iphone but how does it compare horizontally when phone is standing up? Is the iphone screen a bit "fatter" ?

3. How does the auto focus on the camera work on this phone?

(edit) 4. is the screen glass or plastic?
