Got It......It's fast....it's really REALLY fast...

Has anyone confirmed the type of glass/plastic used for the screen ?

Just wondering how scratch proof , responsive , grease resistent its going to be.

Can you n1 owners please install the neocore benchmark form the android market and share the benchmark results here? The whole process should take you less than 3 minutes, including downloading the free demo, running it, sharing the score and optionally uninstalling the demo. Pretty please?

Just did it.

Results:
28.8FPS

Resolution:
480x800

Those are the only two pieces of info that it put out for me.

Speak to text works pretty well. Sent a few emails out using it.

The new map is pretty tight. Drove for a bit using it as my navigation, and the speaker is loud enough to give good direction while watching the directions. Pretty good!

tmizzle/3rd geer:

i'm unfamiliar with benchmark results. what do those numbers/results tell you on a phone?

3D performance is the most intensive processing power utilization, other than the radio functions. It's indicative of how fast the phone will render pictures, movies and 3d objects in apps and games as well as screen transition effects such as screen rotation when you turn the phone for example.

While this score is higher than all the other android phones, the demo would need to have the memory cache limits updated according to the 512 MB RAM capacity of the N1 to truly reflect the performance.

Bench result 28.8FPS with or without sound?

The 3GS can't run this demo without android. As for the droid, I don't know. If you check out the link in the youtube video I posted, I think someone commented 25 FPS for the droid. I got 24 on the G1.

While these benchmark scores are indicative, they are only valid if the software is up to date with the hardware tested.

And it's certainly not indicative for the Nexus one as the Acer Liquid scored 34.7 FPS while running on the 24% under clocked version of the same CPU (@ 768MHz) with just a half of the N1's RAM.

LOLz!!!!! The GPU has nothing to do with rendering movies or photos. Thats done all on the CPU. Reality is not what you make beleive it is.

dude how do you guys post while on probation? haxorz!!!!

So how about you guys who got the phone for free already and had time to play with it, would you consider it to be worth $530 unlocked or $180 subsidised and would you buy it now that you know what it's like?

Actually, they are the few people in the world who don't have to consider it.

Thanks for the info. With sound.

You don't say? *puzzled* As for you who need it broken down to atoms: speaking hypothetically in a situation where you wouldn't have the phone but are in the market for a one with previously mentioned experience from the N1

Honestly, I think it's definitely worth it. I'll be completely honest in saying that my iphone is and will be my permanent ipod because the music on the iphone and the UI is impeccable. It goes unmatched. However, the speed and UI and screen resolution on the N1 makes it the better phone to me. This is coming from the worlds number one fan of the iphone as well.

If I had to walk in to a store and buy one or the other....it would be the N1, and that's an easy choice. The more I look at both phones side by side, the more I think the N1 even looks sexier.

That being said....I gotta get ready to head to the Apple store...MY DAMN EAR PIECE in my iphone doesn't work when I make calls or recieve calls. Only works in speaker phone mode.

Oh...did I mention the N1 can actually make calls???

Has it got any type or use of multi-touch?

No multi-touch at all which sucks. Because I have the iphone and UK Hero, my instinct is to pinch and zoom.....but I keep forgetting I have to click on the sucky (+ or - ). Definitely not a fan of that.

You say no multitouch. How does typing compare with the iPhone? I ask because many people believe multitouch is helpful for fast typing on a virtual kb. Are you able to type just as fast/without errors on the N1?

although the phone sounds amazing. it looks like i wont be able to get it. (i just got my mytouch and signed my contract on dec 1st). so all i can do is cry and pray for a mytouch 2.1 update

I posted this a few pages back....the typing is definitely an even match with the iphone. Originally with my UK Hero, it wasn't really great..but decent. That annoyed me when typing and I was forced to put the phone in to landscape mode. On the N1, I haven't had any issues. I would say it's identical to the iphone. They definitely nailed it on this one.
