Got It......It's fast....it's really REALLY fast...

3rd thanks so much for all your information, I joined for this thread and now am hooked to reading a lot more topics than just this one. I'm curious, regarding Edge and wifi, what kind of battery life you see on both, and which is more efficient. Thanks again.

holy shit what the **** is wrong with you? THE NEXUS ONE HAS MULTITOUCH. PEROID. IT DOESNT MATTER IF THE KEYBOARD OR BROWSER DOESNT USE IT

hardware supports it and the software doesn't, why make things so heated over nothing?

Its not implemented AT ALL. The keyboard doesnt, the browser doesnt, google maps doesnt, NOTHING on it has ANY multitouch features. Thats all people are saying in their reviews. We all know the nexus one screen supports it, and its written into the android sdk. But who cares? We cant use it stock.

Do you have any proof where the software supports multitouch. Do you mean the dolphin browser witch has pinch to zoom?
Anyway it doesn't really matter to me. Just on the onscreen keyboard it could be nice.

I think i'm starting to understand why Rix is on probation.

For consumers multitouch means multi touch keyboard, pinch and zoom and other gestures.

The nexus one doesn't have any of these. You can argue the N1 is CAPABLE of multitouch, but it doesn't implement it in any way consumers have come to expect.

I believe saying no multitouch is accurate though for those interested in pinch zoom in the browser, dolphin browser is pretty nice though still not as smooth as safari/eris.

3rd, Is there anyway you can make a video of the nexus one loading webpages vs your iphone? If you only have one sim maybe put it in the iphone and just do the test on wifi? Also maybe make a video with a clock in the background of it downloading a file and compare it to iphone?

I'm curious, you keep saying edge is fast... just how fast are we talking? I'd like numbers. A number of people have suggested ways to do this. It would be very helpful!

EDGE has about the same speed as an 3G UMTS network without HSPA. They both have, I think, a max. about 380 kbit/s.

The phone is capable of multitouch. It doesnt matter if consumers get mixed up about what multitouch means, it makes no difference. the n1 still has multitouch.

Multi touch makes things easier but I don't have to have it.

I wish someone from the android team would explain, once and for all, why it's not implemented at the OS level. If it's for legal reasons, then it should be at least unofficially supported considering there are few phones that do multi touch.

I for one, think the OP asking for donations to answer questions he obviously wanted to share for free to begin with is completly wrong and am surprised the mods allow it.

It's allowed 'cos no site rules are being contravened and the site owner/admins don't have a problem with it.

Its tough to judge the two. For edge I pushed about 12 hours the other dying. Wifi I really haven't tested beyond the second day I got it.

When on wifi at my house, it disconnects the signal o my airport after about 15 minutes of use. Noteven my landline works. I have to shut everything down and reboot. That's been killing me.

@3rd .... 2 questions for you,

1) What is the actual resolution of the screen ... I'm reading 800x480 but I swear I read somewhere it did 720p? Or is that 720p video recording? Or maybe i'm just on drugs....

2) When you are in the browser, or any list really. Say you are browsing through your texts inbox, or browsing this forums where you have 50 posts per page. On a LONG page, where you would have to scroll down forever; Is it possible to grab the side scrollbar? On my samsung phone and ipod touch I can't do this. It's super annoying that I just have to keep flicking down forever to get to the bottom of the page. I was to be able to use a scroll bar and after 1 drag be at the bottom of the page.

I would love to see this as well.

1. I think the video. I pulled the specs from a video I recorded an posted earlier.

2. No grab function available on browser but it is on contacts section. On the browser though if you try to scroll the page fast it bounces pretty quickly. I've been using it a lot on these pages.

i am going to ask you a huge favor , and i totally understand if that's a big undertaking for you , you might as well just don't do it.
i was thinking if it is possible to give me a screenshot of this website in chrome browser in nexus one :
gooya news
this is a news portal in my native language , i know the website is shown properly in iphone's Safari browser , and since they are both webkit based , i thought this might be the case for chrome phone version as well , but i could not be sure.
i would really appreciate the effort.

also , is there any specific program for google reader to use on Android?
cheers

off subject here but I thought I would just throw it out there. Every time I see this thread the title makes me think of Unger from the Adam Sandler version of the longest yard. "Oh he's fast, really fast, I mean he's so fast he makes fast look not fast." lol Sorry just had to put that out there. We now return to your normally scheduled thread.

Probably a dumb question but can you confirm the color scheme of this phone? I'm beyond confused after that Engadget hands on, the color of the device seemed to change depending on the lighting. So what is it, gold and bronze? black and bronze? charcoal and gold?...etc etc.

I'm glad you asked this....I had wondered the same thing.

HAHAHA, I do remember that.
