Got one today.

Just got the HTC One X today and I already have to take it back to be replaced.
It picks up my Wi-fi signal and connects fine but keeps dropping out every few seconds and reconnecting. Called HTC, the tried to help but ended up saying it need replacing. Will be heading back to the store very shortly to swap it over. Will let you all know how the new one goes.

oh dear...question, have you tried it with other wifi networks?

maybe use your old phone as a hotspot 1st and try to connect to that?

just trying to rule out its not the router you have there...

Well, I took it back before logging back in here and guess what? The new phone is doing it too so I'm guessing that it is a router problem.
The guy at the phone store tried it before I left and it connected to their wi-fi just fine. All other devices using wi-fi are fine but the HTC just keeps getting stuck in the searching, connecting then dropping out loop.

How do I give my self a static IP?
I have a Netgear Router and have called them and tried checking settings. The next step was to download and install a new firmware update for it but when I tried to do that, it just kept loading and wouldn't install.

I'm with Optus in Australia and still have my original Optus router that they gave me so I might try and use that instead of the netgear one and see if that works. Finger's crossed! :)

Got mine today. really frustrated as I have to work nights and have not had a really good play with it. Coming from a "rooted" Desire, it all seems strange. And having all that space for apps is so refreshing.

Have you tried connecting it to your wi-fi yet? If not, let me know how you go when you do. I'm curious to see if anyone else has the same problem as me.

I've just come over from having 3 iPhones so really out of the loop when it comes to android.

Hope you get some time soon to have a play.....you'll love it.
I really do love the phone but disappointed with the wi-fi problem.

Try changing the channel on your router - that has resolved problems I have had with other devices. Wifi Analyzer (Android App) is a good tool and will tell you the best channel to set it to (if you have another android phone that is working.)

Will that affect any other devices or my computer that are connected through the Wi-fi??
I called net gear last night and they took me through the settings and channels on the wi-fi and told me that channel 11 (which it is set to) was the best channel for my area.

It shouldn't affect any other devices on the network. Also, Netgear can't say what is the right channel for your area It is a very simple change and you can always put it back to what it was. There are a lot of wireless routers near me and some devices (i.e. our Dell Laptops) are very sensitive. I had loads of problems exactly like yours and for me, the answer was changing to channel 13 and it was an instant fix. I had upgraded firmware on everything and this simple change was the last resort. It is certainly easier than returning another phone and is easily reversible. I

I got my phone from 3 and they messed up in the shop with my sim card .They used a sim card cutter and damaged the sim. Didn't realise until I got home. So before I went back to the shop I had a play and connected to my WiFi. It seemed to work fine. And has done ever since :)

Thanks for your advice but I tried changing the channel several times and even tried AUTO but it didn't help.
Really not sure what else to do.....*sigh*

Glad it's working fine for you. :)

Can I ask what sort of router do you have??
I'm wondering if I might have to get a new router although I don't really want to have to buy a new one just for my phone.

I have the 3 mobile WiFi (mifi).

Thanks!
My phone carrier is Optus and my parents have a Optus router/modem that they aren't using so I'll connect that up and see if it works with that. Will let you know how I go.

I've had this before with IT stuff and the solution is to turn off your wep or wpa key and join your phone to the unsecured network. If the phone works fine turn on wep or wpa and then enter the password for the network into your phone which hopefully you can do without removing it and this should do it.

Try updating router firmware but I've seen devices not play nice for some reason and this fixed the issues for me.

I am having exactly the same problems as you .all my other devies connect ok the one x on the other hand drags its arse sometimes it will load a page most of the time it will drop out .pages take forever to load if they load at all i have a netgear dgn1000 dont know what to do for the best........

There must be a problem with the inbuilt browser disable it in the app settings go to all search internet disable it .then download chrome browser from google play if asked keep location access off and it should work if not reset the device my phone.is.working as it.should now please get back to me if it has fixed or u have noticed improvement as I'm going to contact HTC and let them know about this issue

The thing is that I don't have a problem accessing the web or anything that uses data/wifi WHEN the wifi is working ok. The problem is that the wifi connection between the router and phone keeps dropping out.
Did you have that problem or just web pages slow to load?

Thanks!

The Optus modem wouldn't even connect to the internet so that scraps that idea.
Back to square one!

Yeah it's the same problem it's obviously a compatibility problem with this particular router things load slow.if at.all constant drop outs even apps that use WiFi are slow ie google maps take forever glad I'm not the only one I wonder where the problem lies within the router my pc runs.fast as he'll aswell as my HTC desire and galaxy tab hope they come out with a workaround..please keep me informed incase u get a fix

Will do. I'm going to head back to the phone store and see if they have any suggestions. Will let you know how it goes.

Spoke to HTC earlier they say it must be a router problem ,I told them all other devices are working perfectly and its only this phone that has problems but to no surprise they did not want to know same as virgin who the router is with they say it's a problem with the phone compatability .don't know what to do I'm scared of purchasing a new router that I.won't be able to.set it up or the problem will.still exist I want this.phone but as each day goes by I'm getting more and more.disheartened by it .

Got one over the weekend. Must say I like it very much.

I just had to get the One X as I could not use the 2.3.5 on my Desire HD as there is a bug with the date setup. Had to revert to 2.3.3

Those of us that enjoyed the 2.3.5 with Sense 3.0 would enjoy this even more. I don't want ot wait for the ICS as I think there could be compromises.

Cheers.

Also got one yesterday.

So far I haven't experienced the wifi issues of above and have connected to 2 different office routers and even wifi hotspot on my Desire.

Oh yeah, am very impressed so far! Long may it continue...
