Help Got some basic questions about G2.

1) What does it mean to root it? Is it the same as overclocking it? If no, then...

2) Can you overclock it? if so, how?

3) Can you put the latest android os on it yet? 2.3 is it? If so, how do I do it?

Also:

1) Why does speech recognition fail at times? I have to turn my phone off and then on again to fix it. I also have to switch it off/on when the phone becomes too slow. Does this mean that it's good to take the battery out at times? Just seems like a really shoddy way to restart/refresh a phone. Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks

Root is giving superuser permission, allowing you to do things with the phone that you would be unable to do otherwise. Overclocking is one of those things.

In order to overclock you have to flash a custom kernel. To flash a kernel you must have a custom recovery installed. To have a custom recovery installed you must have root access with S-off. Depending on the kernel the G2 can be overclocked as high as 1.9ghz. The kernel I am on is only 1.5GHz.

the G2 has an official 2.3.4 build with root you can update to a AOSP build of 2.3.5 the newest of the new. (I'm running that on a CM7 nightly)

I am unsure about the last question, I have never used that feature.

Thanks for your reply.

So there isn't any official upgrade to the latest OS then?

Also, what is the default clock speed of a G2 (without overclock)?
