Gotta get an Android!

Newbie
O.K. first things first. I'm new to Android forums.

Gotta get me an Android phone. It's just a matter of which one. I don't do much gaming(eventhough i was considering a 1GHz processor) and would like something with a little get up and go.

Can someone pleeeaase suggest a good Android phone.

I'm with AT&T and am considering The new LG Thrive.

Well, I don't have any really good advice about which phone to get, but I do have some advice about the processor in whatever phone you decide on. Most likely, you will get a 1ghz processor. Pretty much every Android phone on the market right now has a 1ghz processor in it. Some phones, like the Motorola Atrix, have dual core processors in them. The 1ghz processor is pretty much standard now, excluding a few lower end phones that don't have a 1ghz processor. I would not advise getting these phones. They were using old technology a year ago.

But I don't really have a good idea about what phones At&t has, I'm on Verizon, I would still advise looking at getting a 4G phone, if At&t has 4G coverage in your area. This is the new technology carriers are switching their networks to and it would be in your best interest to at least consider getting a phone with 4G radios in it.

Like incredible said 1ghz phones are pretty much standard now. If you wanna be a bit futureproof, and since your on at&t I would go with the dual core Atrix. There is also the Samsung Infuse 4g coming out soon but it is single core. I personally prefer the HTC inspire over the Atrix because of HTC's sense UI. Motorola MOTOBLUR UI seems very intrusive to me. And seems to slow the phone down even more.

If you are interested in installing custom ROMs, you may want to stay away from Motorola, since they lock down their bootloaders.

Thanks 4x, dylando & Gmash. I was looking @ the Atrix, it's an awsome phone and I particularly like the battery life in addition to the dual core.

The word "futureproof" should NEVER be used when describing phones.

Also I have owned Sense and Motoblur phones, and Sense is far worse and slows a phone down far more than Motoblur. Just for the record, I don't like either one, stock android is the best.

True. At the pace at which smartphone technology is advancing ,no phone is safe for very long. Lol.

And ill agree with u in saying that vanilla android Is the way to go, If I had to choose a skin it would probably be sense.

I would say you definitely should get one of the higher end phones (not the LG) - You'll be disappointed when there are certain apps or games or whatever you can't use because your processor isn't powerful enough.

Atrix or Inspire - apparently you can get the Atrix today at best buy for crazy cheap on a 2 yr contract. And remember to absolutely take advantage of your 30 day tryout and return/exchange the phone if it doesn't suit your needs.

Isn't the LG thrive a Lg optimus variant(the ones found on all the carriers).
It's a great phone for a mid range device....My friend has the Optimus V and a
few other people have the Optimus S and T

If price is an issue, i'd recommend that phone....But the phones they are recommending you are higher end devices
I wouldn't get the Atrix or the Inspire to be hoenst.

As people stated, they lock their bootloader thingie down...
The inspire is a rather disappointing device...In my opinion, anyway
I'd recommend the upcoming Samsung Infuse 4g

The LG thrill is a new 4g phone coming

My vote is for the HTC Inspire 4G....that's what I got. Because I prefer HTC over Motorola for a few reasons: I prefer HTC Sense over Motoblur, I prefer being able to unlock the bootloader, I prefer HTC firmware update track record, I prefer HTC quality. All those things to me are more important than dual core and front camera and docking accessories.

Carmendiva & galfert thanks a lot.

@ Carmendiva, yes the Thrive is an Optimus variant but it's specs are pretty good considering it's an introductory prepaid Android on AT&T. Camera's not much but I don't take that many pictures anyway. As far as the Atrix, I think it's a pretty good phone, especially since the HSPA+ radio has been activated in it. Am seriously looking at the Infuse.

@galfert thanks a lot. It looks like you have much experience with the HTC Sense UI and open bootloaders are a real issue. As far as HTC firmware updates. Do they usually issue the updates for most current devices or how does that work?

No problema :)

Like I said my friend has an Optimus V and my phone was dead and I used his Camera to take a picture

for a 3.2 megapixel camera, i just took some cute pics for facebook and the camera is not bad at all...

If it wasn't for the fact, I have been spoiled by high end Android I would get one of these phones. They are cute :D

HTC makes great phones but i hate how the majority of their phones ALL look the same. Even Motorola, Samsung, LG, and Sony Ericcson all have different designs.

I say go for the LG thrive :D I root for the little guy...Little guy that packs quite a bit of punch!

-smacks Marcandroid's hand, in a firm but loving way- No! Bad Marcandroid, no thinking about an LG Thrive!
It is a go-phone, is that why you want it? I just looked at the specs, they are awful, just awful!

so the atrix is finally able to take full control of the hspa+?? i didnt know that. i hope at&t doesnt buy tmobile, cause i was thinkin about leaving big red for tmobile (android phones are better, and you get the nexus line) where as verizon your stuck with the locked up moto phones, and a thunderbolt that lasts half a day on battery. and a samsung charge, that isnt all that impressive if you ask me.

He just said it....because it was prepaid...and the specs are not awful at all.

If you compare them with the Atrix, GS2, Inspire then yes they are

but for a low end device the specs of the LG thrive are not bad at all.

I guess since go phones are a no go then get the LG phoenix....lmao it;s the same exact phone just on a contract haha

If you need a high end phone then go with the Atrix or Inspire but if you don't care so much about 4g or tethering go with the Thrive/phoenix

lol you are not likely to find many people who will give u a nonbiased reply

I would get the Atrix, I wouldn't trust any Samsung phone being updated in a timely matter, HTC is alright but single core not a big difference for some but if I'm going to have aa phone for a couple years I would need a couple things dual core, front facing camera, big screen, battery life, and if the phone is right for you

O.K. I know the GoPhone deal seems kinda of cheap but I currently use a GoPhone with a Nokia E71x(Seems like just yesterday when it was "The Bomb") Lol. @ Carmendiva- thanx for the support. @ VoidedSaint- I feel you, I'm considering going high-end but when i do i want to be able to keep the phone for about 3-4 years since we're on the cusp of 4G. The specs on the Thrive seem to fit my wallet right out of the box right now. The carriers lock you into a two year plan and in 4-6 months they've gained back the $ on the subsidized phone and the rest is graaaavy. So i pay approx. $195 str8 out for a 600Mhz processor which beats the hell out of the 369 on the E71x and i get 2.2 Froyo and keep the minutes already stored up on my plan. Thinking about the Galaxy S II though.
