Root Gparted partitioning - 2nd partition not found

Nesa

Lurker
Hi there, I've been trying for hours to partition my sd card with Gparted with no success, posting a request for help is my only hope!

I've rooted my phone using Unrevoked3 and that has been successful.

I've got a Sandisk 16Gb card.

I've tried to partition the card via the USB cable, using the recovery mount as USB option and using the usual mount as disk drive option through HTC sense.

Gparted does not find the sd card with either connection method. It only finds the card when I use an sd adapter card.

Once I've found the card in Gparted, I've then created a FAT32 primary partition and a EXT3 primary partition. All operations are completed, with no errors.

Then I put the sd card back in my phone and restart. I then use Quick System Info to check the A2SD size and "information not available" is all that appears.
Also when I run CWM back up, I get SD-EXT not found.

When I put the sd card back in my PC and find it with Gparted again, there is a warning triangle on the FAT32 partition line, the EXT3 partition is gone and I get the following error message:
dev /mmcblk0p1
no such file
cannot initialize drive
fat32 file support system
files missing dosfstools mtools

It's rather annoying as I feel I'm following all the steps correctly, and its not that complicated.

I've searched the boards for anyone with similar issues, to no avail.
Any help on what I'm doing wrong would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Create the partitions in gparted, then format them both too.

Are you definitely using the correct recovery for your erase size?

I'm sure I re-formated each partition in Gparted, but I'll try again

Software is 2.33.161.2 (Android 2.2)
My HBOOT is 0.93
PVT is PVT1 (S-ON)

I've checked the erasesize and it's 20000 (used terminal emulator)

I've also tried creating the partitions as extended and logical

I'm using the version of CWM that came with Unrevoked3.32, would it be better to use AmonRA?

right, I've reflashed with Unrevoked3.21. I'm now using CWM recovery v2.5.0.7

This time Gparted found my sd card when connected to my pc via the usb.

I partitioned the sd card again using Gparted and formated in Gparted and again via CWM Recovery.

I then did a nandroid back up and the SD-EXT was found.
However, when using Quick System info to find the A2SD storage size, the size is shown as Total: 154mb, free: 39.92mb (what's using 114mb??) and where's the rest of the 1gb partition I created?!

The EXT3 partition that I set up should be 1.024mb
My FAT32 partition has gone down from 14.82 to 13.82 so 1gb has gone somewhere.

I've had enough for today - I'll try again later.

I'd like to continue on to flash Leedroid - based on the fact that I have created a partitioned drive, am I ok to continue?

I'd get this sorted first. Set both as primary. Make sure there are no.spaces between the 2 partitions. Endure "align to cylinders" is unselected

Thanks for your help.

I'm now back to square 1 - gparted is not picking up the sd card via usb and quick sys info is showing no info for A2SD storage size.

I've got no space between the partitions, they are both primary and aligned to MiB

Here's what I've been doing:
starting up Gparted
putting sd adapter in to pc
refreshing devices
selecting sd card, 14.84gb
deleting any partitions to get the whole drive to unallocated
selecting new
Primary
Fat32
following size to 1024
In remaining unallocated space,
selecting new
Primary
EXT3
0 preceding and 0 following
Then Apply
Gparted shows the drive partitioned as FAT32, 13.84 and EXT3, 1023
I've also re-formated both partitions

My sd card storage is shown as 13.84, but nothing in A2SD

I've got USB debugging on and HTC sync is installed on my PC + I'm on Win7 - if any of that makes a difference?

Although I'm new to phone flashing, I'm not a complete computer '**** and I can usually figure things out with perseverance, not this time. I'm sure there's just one little thing I'm doing wrong

Why delete the fat? Just resize then format? Quick system info will show no info if you're not on an a2sd Rom

Just an update - I've now successfully got S-off and I've flashed LeeDroid.

No problems and all is working well, including the partitioned SD card :D
