Help GPS and Airplane mode

Can someone see if their Atrix will allow the GPS to work while in airplane mode? I like to use my phone when I go out in the backcountry to track my progress. There is never signal so that just drains the battery. My Captivate right now allows me to use the GPS in airplane mode and it gives me a great battery life doing that. I hope to be able to do the same with the Atrix! Thanks and sorry if this has been asked already. The forum search is TERRIBLE!

Yes it does. Just tried, Enabled airplane mode, rebooted the phone and then turned on GPS. Using GPS test, I got a solid (withon 9 feet) lock within 30 seconds. Was able to walk around with Motonav and it kept dead on me the entire time. You will need a GPS program with maps on the sdcard, but I'm sure you already know that.

Thanks for the quick response. Right now I only use it track my records and put it on a map when I get home. I thought Google Maps was coming out with a feature to save an area you want for use online but I haven't seen it/figured it out yet. I've seen a few apps that might work. Have you done that before? Any apps you suggest? Thanks again for the quick response.

Just be careful, for some reason the phone still eats battery while in airplane mode. I have noticed this while actually being on an airplane and put it in airplane mode. When I ended up switching it back to normal I saw I had lost significant amount of battery %.

When I checked the battery level and what had been using it, "Cell Standby" had been running the whole time, even when I was in airplane mode. So time without a signal was pretty much the culprit. Dont know why it was still looking for signal when in airplane mode.
