My phone doesn't lock on right away but it does within 2 mins. I was told the gps on these phones are not nearly as good as a gps locator. Under standable I would say for it being a smart phones and has to cram a lot in a little package. But if it isn't working at all do a fctory reset or customer support.

the compass i reclibarated mutiple times and nothing.. and also the GPS it works mayb once out of 10 times.. its redic.. i hate samsung.. their quality sux

I had a serious problem with both Samsung phones I had. The gps would not lock our it took a very long time to do so.

The evo locks in less than a minute and inside a brick building too

I was having the same issue like you guys, I went to applications and went to Google maps and network locations I cleared both data, and my GPS started working again like a charm

the only way i found GPS to work is with the google location services on and not the standalone gps, now it all works i'm especially partial to seeing my location/weather & traffic as my wallpaper. Haven't tried out the skymap again yet.

That sucks for applications which rely on specific locations like navigation or Yelp. You will at best get 500 meter accuracy with the GPS turned off.

My GPS works great and Ive seen it goto less than 1 meter accuracy!

i am still having problems with my GPS... no connection to stats at all.. i even reset and nothing... HELP!

I had the same problem too. I tried the free application gps aids v2 and it seem to fix the problem. You must play with the settings.

Use the app gps status and clear the gps data. Then download new gps data from within the app. That should help you out.
Gps Status can be found for free on the android market.

Where do you go to re calibrate the internal compass, I have been trying to figure that out because mine is slightly off?

Use instructions from my post above yours.
The phone does not come with one pre installed.
Possibly clearing it out from the application settings should be feasible, but I for one don't want to hunt down all gps programs in that list and find which data cache to clear.
Get the app, and move on :)

Also, the gps is supposed to be slightly off when first used, and from time to time later on. At that time, make sure BOTH wifi and gps are turned on, and it will autocorrect after a while.

Make sure you are outside any building, and that you have a clear/unobstructed view of the sky.
Turn on GPS and wifi, and go on Google Maps.
Sit back and let it do it's thing.

(Assuming you've already cleared the GPS data as described in my post above.)

this is getting pretty annoyingl. i still have no connection to any sat. i left it looking for 30 mins.. mayb it has to do w/ rooting it? or mayb removing all the bloat wear? any idea guys?

Did you try my instructions from above? With wifi on and the gps status app?
If you don't have the app, using your dialer, type ##GPSCLRX# and enter your spc code in there. From there, you should be able to clear your gps data.
Also, what is your location (coarse), and what apps are trying to use the gps?
Some apps are better than others... Hopefully someone else from your location can chime in in their experience with gps...
For me, it's peachy (somewhat). Every once in a while, while navigating, the gps signal gets lost. Don't know why, but sometimes it just goes off up to minutes at a time.
