GPS and navigation?

Hi, anyone want to comment on how well the GPS works on this phone for satnav? Having struggled along for two years with the HTC One X with pretty much non-functional navigation this is my biggest reservation with upgrading to the M8. I've already seen one review saying it is a bit laggy.

I haven't used it for nav yet, but the GPS is pretty quick to lock. When I head home a bit later, I'll try out the nav and report back (unless someone else beats me to it).

Hi,

I used it for 18 months no problems, not laggy and accurate, but they have now made it monthly subscription.

I don't use it enough to pay monthly, so now looking for an equally good free one, anyone got recommendations.

gorsebush, welcome to the site :hello:

I have to ask though, is your reply in this thread related to the HTC One M8? I see that most of your posts are in the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 section, plus the the fact that the HTC One M8 has not even been released for 18 months is why I ask.

Thanks.

you are quite right I use a samsung,

Personally from the point of view being laggy, I doubt if the software (M8) has major differences in performance on most androids newish smart phones, and if it is that much different in performance suggest it is the particular phone not SW.

I read it the same way at first but I think he's more interested in an alternative app and that's cool.

If you go to our app forum here -

And search for "navigation" a number of interesting threads come up, for example -

OP, I'm not trying to argue with you, because we all know how variable phone performance can be.

I had the Sprint version of the One X, the Evo 4G LTE, and it's nav performance was outstanding - on ICS. :p

On the Jellybean update, it sucked rocks and only improved some with updates after that. But the ICS nav performance was best for me on that.

My opinion is that they've fixed it here, and I think that the 2 GB ram has a lot to do with that.

It's just my opinion but I hope it helps.

PS - I sometimes have to use the GPS Status app to download the assistance tables but I've often had to do that over the years and I think that is just a part of how I use and abuse my phone. Others with different brands report the same as me on that.
