Help GPS/compass problem/s.

Desire
Android 2.1
Not cracked.

"Originally" the GPS seemed to work. The compass worked.

Not so long ago I was out and wanted to look at some planets.
I have googleskymap (or what ever) where I point the phone at the sky and it tells me the planets I can see.

Anyway, turn on the GPS and wait. and wait and wait.

Finally it said it knew where I was. I pointed the phone at the sky and was panning around.

Funny, it was going crazy. The direction was swinging around not in sync with my movements.

Went back to the GPS program and got the compass.

Facing EAST, it said I was pointing south.

Moving to the north, the compass needle went mad.

I put this down to I was near buildings and their magnetic fields were not helping. Dismissed it.

Now, today, I activated the GPS and again, it isn't doing that well.
Walking WEST it told me i was going SOUTH.

Turning the GPS around (either direction) the needle didn't track me correctly.

AFAIK it is the latest verion.

I have 3 different programs:GPS ESSENTIAL and GPS STATUS (two versions) all the same result.

Any ideas?

You could try 'recalibrating' the magnetometer that the phone uses for the compass by waving the phone in a figure 8 shape.
Maybe download a compass app and see what it's saying before and after.
