Help GPS Issues! Inspire the new Galaxy?

Well tonight i decided to try out navigation and it was quick to lock on. Once we got moving it lost signal 3 times out of the blue and would not lock back in unless we went to maps which picked us right up 2/3 times. It was clear out no clodes and never went under any bridges or over passes.

Got home we installed GPS essentials and it was bouncing from 1-4 sats then for a few moments bounced from 11-12 sats then leveled out at 6 sats found and useable.

Friend has a HTC Aria and is constantly seeing between 7-12 and most times it was locked on to 9-11.

Anyone else notice this or did i get a dud out of the box?

PS: I have reset the phone to no avail

My personal experience has been great. I've used GPS a few times this week alone, (trying alternate routes to my new job) thus far its been dead on everytime.

What are the weather conditions/ roads like where you are? Do you have a lot of trees around or has it been used during a rainy or cloudy day?

It was at night time, clear skys. It was on the highway at first then when i got to main streets it did it.

Today i used it 2x and no issues right now.
I hope it was just a one time glitch.

BTW how many sats should i be seeing at any given time with a clear view to a clear sky?

I just spent a week on vacation on a road trip in California. I used navigation heavily and never had a single problem with it (aside from the fact that it eats battery like it's going out of style).

It really depends on the area

Near my work GPS is horrible

Around the city it locks on with no problems.

Also, where was the phone located during the route?

Ive noticed if you put the phone low, like in your lap, the signal can sometimes get lost.

Believe it or not, I am having the exact same problem. GPS for my Inspire has been non-existent. I actually had a Captivate before this and you know the rest of the story with that one... Now I have the new Inspire and it is giving me the same issues. I have been to two different corporate ATT stores and tried it on multiple HTC Inspire phones there and would you believe it... a lot of the phones have this issue.

A great app to use to see the connectivity is called "GPS Status". This will show you a real-time display of the satellites your phone is hooked up to. The icon is grey with an orange satellite on it.

On my visit today to a corporate ATT store, I had them pull out a brand new Inspire and try and connect. The new Inspire barely had 1 or 2 connections. The actual Inspire floor model was connecting to around 7 satellites. We would hold all 3 phones (mine included) side by side and only the floor model was able to connect to a bunch of satellites.

We might have another Captivate issue on our hands. The workers at ATT were baffled and had no idea what to do. Obviously I would exchange it for a new one, but the new one has the same issue.

They gave me a number to call to get advanced technical support, so I will call that tonight to see what they can do.

If anyone finds out anything regarding this, please hit me up at joe3436 * hotmail * com

My experience has been that with a brand new device it can sometimes take a while (sometimes up to a couple days) for GPS to get really stable. I can't say that I know exactly what it's "learning" during that period, but I would guess that it's collecting statistics on each satellite's RF link so that it know what bands to try first when it needs to grab another bird without having to scan the whole range.

Try activating the GPS several times a day for a couple days and see if Nav gets more stable. I've used Nav a moderate amount on my Inspire and it's been rock solid since the second day.
