Help GPS issues?

I used to get tracks almost that bad. As long as you do get locks theres probably a lot you can do with settings and tools. Worth a try atleast.

Yesterday I "upgraded to the official new Froyo 2.2
Baseband I9000XXJPP
Build # XWJPA

and this is what the GPS looks like when doing nothing but just standing still down on the street GPS Freakout

definitely still no "FIX" thats for sure :o[/QUOTE]

This is strange because my GPS is now working a dream, Ive tested it for three days and its much better, I dont use tracks much just co pilot so perhaps i need to test tracks but so far co pilot is keeping me on the correct road almost inch perfect which is a great improvement, no more jumping from street to street.:) ( JPO )

Mine works very well with the right settings, as my maps a few posts ago shows. Yesterday i installed Froyo and now it works well also without additional tools. Typically when i turn it on it sees 10-12 sats with 8-9 locks almost instantly. Tracking is perfect. So i still think its a software issue. Atleast mine does not have a hardware fault as far as i can tell and i use gps a lot. If anyone thinks they have broken hardware they should probably return it. If gps really does not work on your device this shoulndt be too hard.

Would you mind posting the GPS settings you have found most effective? I've tried various different settings and "fixes" that have been published, but theres been no clear winner so far. I'm still on Eclair JM1, waiting for Froyo on simlocked orange.

Here they are:

[from lbstestmode:]
Operation Mode: Standalone
Startmode: Hotstart
Accuracy: 20
In SUPL i have the google server but i dont think it matters in standalone mode..

[GPS Status (from market)]
Filter GPS speed: on
Sensorfiltering: maximum

Then I have GPS booster installed and I run Trackerbooster before starting gps. After I started the apps I turn off GPS and back on, this reset helps for some reason.

In the samsung/android settings menu I have use wifi for location disabled.

Hope it helps, if not, Froyo may be worth a try, it seems to have increased the number of locks for me (often 12, not just visible but locked)

GPS on JPO fw absolutely fine for me, tried on mytracks, gmaps and sygic. Faultless. Glad they've sorted it!
Same here.... For the very first time EVER I can happily say the GPS is working superbly.

1. I got a lock within seconds INSIDE my Home ~ something the GPS could NEVER achieve before.
2. It follows My Tracks faultlessly.
3. GPS remains on all the time. It does not drop.
4. Layar actually works properly with GPS.
5. The camera can now use my position accurately when taking shots.

Am I happy... You bet I am. :)

"Sigh" still broken here on two Galaxy S with 2.2.

I've got a stock Vibrant that had the crappy, almost non-functional, GPS situation until last month when I got the J16 update. Now I get a lock on 7-9 satellites out of 12-13 within about 15 seconds. I can get a lock indoors most of the time if near a window, but it takes longer. The only weirdness I've had is that the target wanders around when I'm standing still and using Google Earth. Otherwise, the phone locates and navigates well. I'm not going to declare it perfect, but it's such a relief to have a GPS that is generally reliable and navigates well on the road. After 3-4 months of loving the phone but hating the GPS I'm satisfied. But sometimes I go outside and check the satellite lock just to be sure the phone hasn't had a relapse!

JPO is the name of a specific ROM file.
It is the official one that was released by Samsung last week to the UK i9000 users.
No idea what w/e is. Could you post where you saw that statement.

Sorry for the lame question but could you please help me where can I change those settings?

This is good news. Just need to hope it hurries up on AT&T now. GPS is not a killer for me until we see some decent offline applications but the Samsung stonewalling is frustrating.

Thanks

I might wait for froyo, as it seems to have worked for some people, and might use these to tweek after that.

I could almost live with the lag but the gps is now useless. Before Froyo I was one of the few who was happy with GPS but now it is rubbish. I hope I can find a way of going back to 2.1 using kies.

+1.

The official UK 2.2 release (FROYO.XXJPO) appears to have fixed GPS for me. On 2.1, GPS on my phone was useless, now it reliably locks onto 9-11 satellites outdoors with ~16ft accuracy. Another happy camper here.

What does the actual "accuracy" setting do, is it the distance where the GPS will log where it is, in feet, meters, random metric?

It appears to be the treshold accuracy above which locations are ignored during tracking. I think its in meters but I could be wrong. Settings of 20 and 30 have given me good results, settings 50 and over have given inaccuracies.

Yay... :( Rooting, Lagfixing and Messing up my GPS all in one night... hey 2 out of 3 isn't that bad :p

Tried the Dial *#*#3214789650#*#* (android 2.2) and must have done something wrong somewhere. Now it takes forever to get a "location" (as in can't or won't get a fix at all I'm not quite sure which) when it gets a fix it is more like a flash then it drops it again right away. and my compass is free spinning with a mind of its own... Is there a way to reset/restart the GPS?
og and GPS loging was that on or off by default?

Well on a happy note so far I'm VERY pleased with the rooting and the one click fix. z4root and RyanZA's OCLF 2.0 which you recomended in another thread beards :)

Pleased you did the root & lagfix. Now lets see if we can tackle your GPS.
Have a look at a recently released app by the name of FasterFix.
You can also find an article on it at PocketNow

I just get a blank screen with that app.
Ive tried most of the settings in this thread but my GPS is now totally useless.
On a 10 mile drive with mytracks recording it managed to draw a line for about quarter of a mile.

Remind me again seepage.... What stage is your SGS at ~ ROM, root, lagfix etc.

beards Its on 2.2 via kies. have only ever updated via kies.
It is now rooted and one click lag fix as well. which has fixed the lag.
It is quite annoying as I had my GPS working perfectly before froyo.
