Help GPS issues?

My Main issue is GPS.

- 3 times it overheated using GPS while mounted on windshield, phone would simply refuse to charge when phone temp went over 43oC. Outside temp was between 90-95oF and sunny.
- Phone gets very hot just simply using the GPS
- Cant get a GPS lock at all indoors
- Looses GPS lock while driving, Db ratio for even 7 sat locks is medicore
- Whenever it tries to lock in GPS, data gets dropped from 3G to 1X like there is interference between them

I think the phone is working very hard to get and keep the GPS signal, which is causing so many other issues.

OV GPS made the phone warm and I even had a silicone case on it and never exp these kind of issues with it.

Course of action, going to get a replacement unit and hope for the best.
Just hoping I am not going to fix GPS issue and get 10 new different issues from the replacement.

I am seeing the same issues as this. It dropped from 100% charged to like 76% charged after using GPS for an hour because it got so warm it would not charge itself. It also would drop from 3g to 1x almost all the time when using GPS. Mine is going back until they fix these issues.
 
Just did a quick 30 minutes gps test. Started out at 64% battery, 92f temp. Satellite lock within 2 minutes, went to 1x twice but for only 1-2 seconds then back to 3g with bar signal variations from none to full but never lost sat lock. At destination with 47% battery and 97f temp. Accurate as my Dinc estimate at within 15'.

Just me, I rarely mount the phone on the dashboard when sunny, once sat lock achieved. I place my phone down on the center console or seat, have never lost sat lock doing it.
 
Well, this shows objectively how the OV is sitting there locked with several satellites, and the MT is laboring.

Can one make those changes pointed out by the other poster to the config file without being rooted? Can one use for example, MyPhoneExplorer to explore the system files, presumably over-write one?

I too would not want to root the phone just to fix the GPS, but I'm very temped as I'm always getting lost, and I miss the performance of my Samsung Intercept's GPS sub-system!
 
Ok, this is most definitely software and not a hardware issue. I had not been able to connect with GPS at all since I got the phone last week. Not even after letting it search for over 20 minutes a try. I was just about to walk out the door to return the phone when I read another comment about GPSfix so with no luck I thought I would give it a try. After the GPSfix failure I decided to make one last attempt with the App that followed GPSfix on my Market search for the App. Anyhow I installed A-GPS Injector and the dozen times I used the GPS after the installation has it made a connection but the connections are made instantaneous. The App did cost me a buck but I’ll get over it.
 
I've had hit or miss with the GPS lock, even with the use of GPSfix. I'm not really sure what the issue is, but klehman, if you could test this over the course of a couple weeks and then respond, that would be appreciated.

I guess we also had some issues with solar flares and GPS interference, so I always did my GPS testing with my Optimus V and Triumph side-by-side. The OV has basically been perfect with GPS lock in less than 2 seconds, 100% of the time (even indoors).

The radios in this phone are inferior to the V,that is the reason i returned it and went back to the V,pretty sad for a 300 dollar phone.
 
there is a gps outage in new york state.... supposedly has something to do with the new google maps (according to VZW)

also a rumor that VZW screwed up the gps with an update to their cell tower software ( this seems more logical to me )
