GPS Offline?

I'm thinking about picking up a 2013 N7 but didn't feel like spending the money on a LTE version this time around. I think I'm going to mainly use it for gaming and GPS. I know the GPS works without cellular service, but then you have no maps, is there a way to pre-download the maps so I can have a full GPS solution without a cellular connection?

I will really miss my GPS program, Waze blows away google maps, but I would like a larger screen as a gps instead of my current iphone 5.

I believe the newer versions of Google Maps allow you to save small sections for offline use.

I'd also hazard a guess that there's plenty of apps with offline maps, both free and paid, so I'd have a quick visit to the Play Store.

I only use GMaps so I'm not sure which is the best app.

With Google Maps, you can save maps offline, but you can't do any navigation functions - i.e. get directions, search for addresses, etc. They're just maps.

Otherwise, you'd have to use something like Navigon, or TomTom, or one of the other offline navigation apps available in the Play Store.

Hmm, thanks guys good to know. Maybe I'll hold out for the LTE version. I do have Navigon for iOS, that may be an option but it's a bit pricy, especially to buy it a 2nd time.

Could you use the cellular connection on your iPhone and hotspot over to your Nexus via WiFi?

You can easily predownload maps for offline viewing later.

Don't expect turn by turn directiins without data though if you go off your route ;)

There are several FREE or inexpensive GPS apps in the Play Store. Take a look at Navfree and Copilot.

A vote for CoPilot here. When I last looked at NavFree it didn't support postcode input in the UK.

CoPilot's attempts to read UK place names can be entertaining :-)
