Help gps on wifi model

Well the missus and I were going to replace her laptop that i stole for work with a Xoom. The question that I have is that we are only looking at the wi-fi version (600$) is a lil steep at that. She and I want to know if the gps will work in BFE in the middle of nowhere with no wi-fi?

If you've pre-loaded the map in that area, sure. Google Maps can cache the maps on the device if you've gone to the area on wifi.

The GPS should still work regardless of WiFi.

Is the idea here that in the future Google will make a version of there mapping system that is down loadable by state. My wife is wanting this to be her primary GPS and the apps for this dont look to promising unless im missing something. I know on my hts eris the maps gray out quick, is it possible to save it all on the xoom??
