Help GPS Problems

I just got an Epic the other day. So far I am liking the phone, but I have noticed problems with the GPS. I am unable to get a fix. If I turn the phone off and then on again, it usually gets a fix almost instantly.

I remember hearing about GPS problems on the Galaxy S phones, but haven't seen any solutions.

Has anyone experienced this problem and if so, any solutions? I did ensure the firmware, etc are up to date.

Thanks.

I have found the software/firmware just doesn't install properly at times. Recently had to swap out a bricked phone and the ADB would not recognize nor the USB storage would start up. I had to use odin and push DI18 and suddenly everything worked. Currently running Froyo and the GPS would not work for navigation until using odin for DK28. I would try a cache, dalvik, and factory wipe. If that don't work, push it using odin if you are OK with rooting.

I don't want to put a custom ROM on it yet. I just got the phone, so not sure if a factory wipe would do anything or not.... Any other suggestions?

Have you checked the setting to use the wireless networks to help determine your location?

An update, I have applied the "cold start" fix and turning airplane mode on / off, but neither has worked all the time. I have to resort to turning the phone off and then on again. So far that has always allowed me to get a fix. Kind of annoying but at least I found something that works.

That's not a very use friendly solution. Have you tired doing a hard reset?

Not yet. I got the phone about a week ago and it has been doing it from the beginning. I guess I will try a hard reset and if that doesn't work, contact Sprint...
