Help GPS response time and accuracy

Hi,
I use Samsung Galaxy Y, model GT-S5360 with Android 2.3.5. I'm facing a problem with GPS and Google Maps. Even though the GPS and packet data are ON still its is not able to point my 'correct' location and the error differs by 1mile approx. As soon as I switch my WiFi on it gives the exact location. What seems to be the problem and solution.

Did you switch on GPS before checking the location. GPS must be enabled to get a pin point location
