Help GPS Shutoff After 30 minutes

I've been very happy with the GPS on the Atrix. I'm hoping to fully replace an aging Garmin unit.

The Atrix works great, except that occasionally (happened 3 times so far) the Google Navigation app reports that it has lost GPS signal and doesn't recover. GPSTester reports 0 satellites seen after this happens. Restarting the phone fixes this and the unit goes back to great localization. Has anyone else seen something like this?

Thanks,
Louis

Hi Louis,

the same happened with me today. However I didn't have to restart the unit, turning the GPS on and off with the GPS widget resolved the problem. It is still annoying...

If it happens again, I'll try using the GPS widget. Thanks for the tip. Haven't had it happen in the last week. I've been trying to use it everywhere I drive.

From what I've read, the folks who had bad GPS chips had really bad performance, not symptoms like what you or I saw. I think it's pretty likely a software problem. Hopefully if some more people can characterize the bug we can pin down the conditions that lead to it and get it addressed.

I'm pretty sure that this is a software issue.

Same thing happened to me... I was using Google Navigator one day and all of sudden it lost GPS connection. Then when I go into Google Maps to use the GPS location, it would lock on immediately, but then loses GPS signal after a few seconds. A restart of the phone fixed that for me, but it is still annoying...
