Help GPS sleeping?

We gave the Optimus to our daughter so we can track her on the Laitude. Hubby and I have evos and latitude works perfectly for us to see each other, all day. Her optimus seems to "sleep" the GPS. when we open Latitude, it THEN refreshes the GPS location. Our EVOs GPS don't seem to sleep. Pls advise!

I don't think Latitude is constantly running, which is why the GPS appears to be "sleeping" until you open it back up.

our Evo doesnt have the latitude running all the time, BUT i think it has to do with this:
"real time updating - Friend's phone or Maps version not supported". so it boild down to (1) turn this phonein and get a higher functioning one or (2) what is the most current version of Maps so that I can compare to what is in her phone. We did do massive updates when we got it last week.

The gps must be on for this to work right? which will eat down the battery right? ok so does it (gps) not sleep when she uses the phone? does it not update the local when in use? and do you have to open lattitude on hers to make it show on yours?
I am curious about this too. :)

On my Evo, the gps updates all the time. On her Optimus it doesnt. i have found 2 possible solutions - Latitude Update which keeps my latitude about 90% updated of her whereabouts. if the Latitude data is a bit stale I press Refresh and voila!
Other solution is GPS Tracker. it can breadcrumb and has regualr web and mobile web interface to display the track. i have her and my phone on the same account and it displays very well too.
so - i am testing both for a bit longer before idecide which one to go with.

In Latitude you register each other as visible users. Our Evos display the gps location even in sleep mode. hers only displays when she has latitude open.

I've benn playing with lattitude since last night and with gps on it says I'm a mile and a half down the road. with wifi on it puts me across the street in the woods 300 yards away. Heres the funny thing my wifes phone shows next to a lake a mile away.
I also noticed that all android phone menus are not the same So my Opt does not have the option for "google location services" ....in settings/locations :)

yes to andoid phones not being identical in options. i see it too. we are a small rural based town with 1 cel tower. our wifi is not well mapped by google so i ahve to rely on the gps as locater. usually it gets us within 1000ft. we each carry spare charged batteries and charge in the car on long drives. so far "latitude update" is working well on daughters optimus, we can goose it to refresh from our phones for a good reading. andi do LOVE the breadcrumbing of "gps tracker". wow tomorrow she goes back to school and we REALLY test the system!
