Help GPS vs. battery charge

I've noticed an issue when navigating with Google Maps. With 100% battery, when I plug in my car charger I get the green LED. If I begin navigating, the LED stays amber the entire time and will eventually run the battery down. If I stop navigating, the car charger will again fully charge the battery. Is this an issue with all Android phones or just mine (Verizon HTC Incredible, stock Froyo 2.2, original battery, Verizon car charger)?

Gps uses more power than the charger can generate, it's normal.

Agreed that it's normal. However, if you turn the screen off (just tap the power button) if you don't need it for a while (if you stay on the same road for a while), that will let the phone charge while still navigating.
