Help GPS while charging

Ageless Stranger

I have used Copilot on all of the smartphones I have owned in the past, and for each phone I have used a car mount with a charger.

On all other phones, I have never had an issue while driving and using GPS until the galaxy S2. It seems that any brightness on the phone >50% the battery begins to drain over time. This isn't normally an issue at night time, but in the day time when the sun is bright I have to turn the brightness up.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is the combination of the AMOLED screen and GPS at the same time too much for a car charger to give enough juice to actually charge this thing?

I use the official Samsung vehicle dock and have the SGS2 running Google Navigation (with GPS) and playing music as well as having the screen on full brightness and it seems to have been ok.

I do notice that sometimes the SGS2 does not sense the power when I first start and I have to unplug and plug in again, but then it works fine.

I have a generic 12V plugin charger that I used on a recent 8 hour trip (8 hours each way). I used Google navigator, using Winamp to play music with screen at full bright with headset jack connected to car's stereo and had no problems. Next trip I plan to use BT and an external 10htz GPS if Google navigator supports doing this.

Oh and I had the wifi hotspot on for my daughter's laptop.

I've had this issue. I contacted MobileFun phone shop on the advice from this forum to ask for a more powerful car charger. This they supplied and it is better, but there is still a drain when using CoPilot.

While I haven't tried with a charger, I have noticed that this drains the battery faster than anything else I have done with my SGS2. My experience tells me I'd be lucky to get an hour and three quarters on a full charge.

Car chargers do vary a bit but the SGS2 won't take a current higher than 650mA so that is what you should aim for if you are going to buy a new one.
