GPS with Gingerbread

there's been a lot of threads about the GPS on our evo shifts before the update (Gingerbread v2.3) was released. but now the update is out and a lot of people are using it, so figured I'd start this thread to see what others are experiencing.

I'm a property Inspector, and I use my GPS on my shift continuously for anywhere from 4-9 hours per day every day. before the update, I was experiencing the same thing a lot of other people were: losing satellite tracking, then would search and would never find it, would have to exit navigation and restart it again to get satellites back. in the time I use my gps, this was happening to me 1-3 times per day. in bad weather sometimes up to 10 times a day.

it wasn't until today I realised that since installing the gingerbread update, I have never lost satellites, not one single time. and there have been some insanely nasty storms several times while using it.
also, before the update it would take anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes to lock position when first starting navigation. since the update it has never taken more than 30 seconds to lock position, and the accuracy is waaaay better
sooo, +1 for gingerbread!

anyone else notice a huge improvement in gps usage since installing 2.3?

I have. I had a lot of issues with GPS on Froyo, but I haven't had a single issue now that I've upgraded to Gingerbread. Seems to have solved it. I'm quite pleased.

I have also noticed a huge improvement. On 2.2, I would get "searching for satellites" and not get a solid signal for several minutes. Once, I was still "searching" for satellites when I actually arrived at the destination (navigated there by a friend's iPhone... The horror.)

This weekend I tentatively used the GPS, not knowing the update had fixed these issues and it worked flawlessly. This alone is more than worth the upgrade.

*update*
11 days straight now, 4-8 hours per day every day of consistent use, have not lost satellite signal one single time, accuracy is way better, re-routing is way faster, aquiring initial signal is way faster. LOVE IT!!

I gotta say, that is one area that the update has impressed me.. I just tried google nav the other day for ishes and giggles, and it worked! First time it has worked for me in 3 months. I was so happy. Anyway, all the bugs are worth it now that my GPS is back to normal.;)
