Help GPS without cell service?

I was wondering if the GPS on this phone worked without being connected to cell service. Thanks in advance.

It would, but you would need to find mapping software that would install on the SD card, the internal phone storage is to small.the compass apps would work, and location finders would work also.

There is map software available on the Market that can be used, such as Co-Pilot. Google Maps/Nav require a Web connection.

CoPilot Live USA cost only $5.00, but it is getting horrible reviews. Is it better to buy lotto with this 5 dollar or just try it out?

I have Co-Pilot USA. STAY AWAY!! Nothing but issues with the registration process. It will work for awhile then with no reason say your trial is expired (even though you bought it and successfully registered) and then may work again in a few days. Of course this happens when you really need it. Trust the reviews. Trust me, it will work properly within the 24 hours and the next several weeks and then that program bug will strike.

I have the Optimus V, and even when I cache map data,
the GPS fails to work without access to to the network.
If I turn the phone to airplane mode, and Wifi off, the GPS
is totally useless, but doesn't warn you that the location is
wrong.
Does anybody else find this to be the case?

I am currently in the Gulf of Mexico on a work boat with no cell service. I turned off my wifi, turned on GPS, and google maps pinpointed my location within 30 seconds. Accuracy was spot on within 20 meters. I verified it against the boat's gps positioning system.

I've been using it since March. I emailed and had them, give me a link to donwload the maps to my computer then copy them to my phone so I could try it out within the 15 minute refund period.

I also had weird registration issues but they were resolved by email contact with support. Several emails, mind you, but resolved.

No problems using it from March-September. Good routing, worked well without data.

I did have a problem with an update from the market last week but customer service told me what to do within an hour of my question and the issue was resolved.
