GPSOne or GPSD - I hope GPSOne with LG

Does anyone know if this uses gpsone or gpsd. If GPSd is being used then there is a gpsd file in the bin directory. If GPSONE is being used then there is usually a reference to it in gps.conf file. There may also be a gpsone file in the bin directory, im not sure.

Im thinking of getting one of these but dont want another samsung phone with GPSD and their own firmware which is inflexible, set in one mode and has been removed from the device. GPSD doesnt not work in hotboot mode off the network on samsung devices, so effectily you dont have GPS. GPSone is in the qualcomm firmware and can operate in every mode and is changeable if necessary.

Thanks

Thanks for that info, would you mind taking a screenshot of that menu/ options and posting it. I just wonder why they have a hidden menu for this, when its in the chipset on the board.

Also navigate to the gps.conf file, i think its in system/ etc and take a screenshot of it once it open and attach that too if you could.

Thanks

In the hidden menu all it says about GPSOne is debug mode
Heres the gps.conf some of them overlap a line http://db.tt/RGGhAMVd---http://db.tt/Xp3k24O1---http://db.tt/tU5qlGaa---http://db.tt/0FXysNiA

lol there was no reference to gpsone in the gps.conf, those first few lines are irrelevant to the platform used.

what code did you dial to get the hidden gpsone debug menu up?

Did you try to enter debug mode to see what the options were?

The only other thing you could do is look in the system/bin directory, gpsd is stored in this directory. if not then maybe there a gpsone file there in place of it. If neither are there do a search for both in system.

If neither are there the only other option is to run alogcat, filter with the letter gps, run a gps app afterwards and then go back and you will quickly see references to either system depending on the coding used. You dont have to post a screenshot just tell me which of the two you see in the log.

Any help would apperciated I would like to get the lg motion 4g shortly but if its running gpsd, i wouldnt touch it. Samsung implement it poorly. Im certain this runs gpsone, just want to make sure though.

Thanks again.

I eventually got the phone. It does use gpsone and works in both network and standalone mode (hot, warm, cold start with assistance) by default.

i dont know what you guys are talking about. what can be done with this?is it just about how the gps works? what are the pros and cons?

I have only had this device a few days. I had a samsung admire which had terrible gps performance, it only worked on the network and wasnt multi moded. Samsung use there own firmware. LG use gpsone (this has gpsone gen 8 or 8A depending on whether theboard is an APQ8060 or MSM8960 and the varient) which is multi moded and will work off the network too (standalone mode) and you can adjust it in the phones firmware. Also this has glonass support so many more sats are available. This will also run down to 6-7snr in use, cold boot at 20+ snr, warm boot at 15+ and hot boot at 10+, ive had up to 45snr, max is 50 on a mobile device and had a few sats all holding over 40+ snr at the same time. Its very hard to beat that performance, samsung gps systems at the moment are rubbish. I was messing around with someones galaxy s3 the other month and this is better. Expect better performance when using it in dual mode, instant lock (pulls real-time cache from towers) and increased accuracy (triangulation with cell towers and sats).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EH-LnKZCKNM this lg device uses gpsone gen 7, go to 3 mins 15 secs on video, this is in dual mode.

Hope that helps. This post was about chosing the right device gps wise and making sure it used gpsone. Just need to know how that member got into the menu.

I had tried this earlier but couldnt find any reference to gpsone, only gps test. Ill have a fiddle and see if i can find it. In the firmware it is set to run in all modes, so no adjustments are required with qpst, lgnpst etc as with older models.

Update: I found the menu, its insignificant. Theres nothing to config on this unit anyhow, its ready out of the box in dual mode, aflt, standalone, with assistance etc.
