Help Grainy Contact Pics?

nickff

Lurker
With the original EVO, as long as the Contacts were 'Phone' contacts, the contacts' pics were not grainy... nice and clear.

Doing the same thing on the EVO 4G LTE results in compressed, grainy pics.

What gives?

Anyone know how to get clear, sharp contact pics?

are you using your google acct to synch? iirc, google compressed contact pics on my ogevo. maybe if you used the phone's contact list?

No, I have my contacts as 'Phone' contacts just like on my original EVO 4g (which resulted in clear, sharp contact pics).

Doing the same in the 4g LTE results in crappy contact pics.

They are very grainy when you open up a contact whether it be from contacts, facebook, wherever. For some reason, they are expanding the pic to fill the top portion of the screen (like the facebook cover photo). Horrible design.

Thats how vanilla ICS was on the Nexus S. If you have Facebook if click and hold a photo of someone you can assign it as a contact photo. Plus crop it too. That helped on the Nexus. Havent tried it on the Evo though.

I see this has been asked in other forums, but it tickled my memory, so I did some searches.

I'm seeing this exact same issue going back before the Evo on lots of HTC models, regardless of country or carrier, going back into early 2010.

Doesn't matter if it's Facebook, Google, or phone/sd card contacts.

Everyone has given the same advice, year after year, model after model - edit each contact one at a time, fool with the contact picture by re-choosing it, and then saving the contact again.

So - that's painful.

I have an idea - no idea if it will help or not, because I don't know how the phone contacts came in in the first place in this case.

But if willing, maybe try:

  • export one contact to the sd card as a vcf file
  • delete the contact
  • import that one contact back

If that works, then you can try doing a mass select/export and then mass erase and then mass restore (a vcf file can hold a contact or a book).

Hope this isn't a step backwards or old news. :o

Thanks! Too much work for me though LOL. I'll just deal with the grainy pics (for now anyways).
