Root "...granted Superuser..."

DroidX rooted via Pete's, original ROM

Too often, a root-only app runs only after two tries. When I tap the icon the first time, it wants Superuser permission. Permission is granted, then the app works properly. Sometimes it's just part of the app. For example, the brilliant Button Savior works perfectly except for the OFF button, which needs TWO taps - the first is Superuser.

And there's no Superuser app visible, though Market says it's "Installed" and root-only apps work, but not all of them work properly.

There's probably some simple thing that's missing - but what??

in all honesty, i have no clue what your talking about, what is rooted via Pete's?and then original rom?

its possible button savior was updated and the newly updated app has superuser issues, other than that, i cannot figure out your question, and i keep re-reading it thinking maybe im not reading it correctly, care to elaborate a little better?

Sorry.
I used Pete Souza's Motorola Tools to root this Droid X, but did not install a new ROM. Rather, I used Titanium Pro to freeze unwanted apps and tailored the original ROM to meet my needs. Also, I'm using LauncherPro+.

THE PROBLEMS RESTATED
1. When starting some root-only apps, the app invokes a request for Superuser permission (a blue info box) and then the icon must be tapped a second time. That happens only once per startup per app.
2. Though the phone is rooted and Superuser is installed, that app does not appear in the app list and was never 'frozen' via Titanium.

Hopefully that clarifies. And Button Savior is unchanged...

i have never heard of pete souza's rooting tools, which version of android are you on? GB? Froyo?

it sounds like his rooting method never installed the superuser apk, now you can download one from the market just search for superuser.

i hope you were careful with what apps you froze using titanium backup, as if you freeze or remove the wrong one, FC messages will appear.

and your problems with root apps not performing correctly, may very well be the result of the rooting tool you used. more insight is needed on what version of android you are on, once you provide me with that i can proceed to help you more, my advice unroot using petes method, and be ready to root with a different method. that we know works and installs the superuser app

I haven't seen a FC - sorta feel left out.

Except for the stated issue this phone is stable, agile, fast - and battery life is superb. I'm reluctant to throw the baby out with the bath water - so would like to solve the problem rather than begin anew.

[nandroid plus LauncherPro+ backup] should enable me to do both, my guru, so I'll accept your wisdom. What root method do you suggest for fools like me?

Thanks again.

well what version of android are you on? thats something we need to know, cause root methods are completely different on 2 version of android

are you on 2.3.340 froyo
or 2.3.602 GB??

well i was wrong, looks like that was the correct one lol my bad

download superuser app from the market, just search for superuser and you should get the app. the fact that some of your rooted apps take 2 times to open might mean that your not setting the root permissions to always allow.

Market says "installed" - but I cannot find Superuser on my machine. And since it's "installed" I can only uninstall from the Market - I'll try that. Reinstalled and it's still invisible.

Since I can't find it, I cannot check to see if "always allow" is checked. Is a puzzlement.

What - exactly - is "Superuser" called once it's installed? I'm thinking that it might have another name, and I may have inadvertently frozen it with Titanium. But there's 479 listings there...

its just called superuser, depending on the rom it should have an android skull and cross bones... if you froze superuser then you wouldnt be able to use rooted apps i dun think, i honestly do not know what this is, :( check your frozen log and see if you did accidentally freeze it.

My Superuser was never frozen, but definitely is invisible. I can OPEN it or UPDATE it from the Market, but cannot see it on the device.

Damn! I suppose it's time to re-root, but per your advice I won't re-Pete. Suggestion?

no the pete is the correct root method, it was my mistake i didnt know the actual name of the root method, rerooting may fix this, but im not sure how, why didnt you install a rom? to remove the unwanted bloat? and still have the blur features?

I'll Re-Pete, then, and hope that Superuser reappears.
I was so happy with the rooted performance of the rooted and cleaned up Droid, that I just didn't go looking. I was using Skyraider on my Incredible, and stopped upgrading (on 4.1) once it seemed perfect to me. The grass is not always greener...

THANKS!!

im just hoping it works, the fact that it didnt install the superuser icon is baffling, hopefully though everything will come through correctly now
