One thing I really liked about Leedroid was the ability to swipe right or left on my notification bar in order to quickly change the brightness of my screen, without having to open the tray, or do anything else. I change the screen brightness often, and I don't want a widget, and it's too many steps to keep opening up Quick Settings.
I switched back to stock rooted from trying different ROMs, and have not installed Leedroid tweaks yet- from what I've read, it seemed liked after installing it, people were losing their notification bars. Rather than deal with trouble, I wanted to try to find an app that does something similar, without having to take the chance of messing things up. It seemed, however, that most apps for brightness control were either widgets, or put a toggle in the notification bar- not what I was looking for.
I then found this app called "Display brightness," which is really great so far. You can put a slider on the screen that works like Leedroid, without having to open anything or do anything else. You can move it to various different spots on your screen, and there are a bunch of settings to play around with. It does show a bar/slider, but you can set it to auto hide after a moment.
The only impact it has had on my daily use is that I can't swipe down the notification bar from where the slider is located, or it activates it, but you can get around that by changing the area where you put the slider, or set it not to activate unless you touch the area for a second first. (You still can't swipe the bar down from that small area though, if you choose to put the slider right on the notification bar.)
I have no affiliation to this app, but am really glad I found it, and thought I might share in case others were looking for something similar, who didn't have Leedroid. (Now, if only I can find a way to hide the default battery icon and put a custom battery percent there instead!)
