Great we may have another 1phone 4 here

I just noticed that depending on where you are holding the phone you loose signal easy way to test take phone hold by edges and look at signal then lay straight with the palm of your hand it will drop to almost nothing
here the issue
with the iphone a case stopped you from connecting the wires through your skin.
will this solve the same problem

A case would solve that problem for the same reason as it did with the iphone. I'd hardly say this is another "iphone 4 problem" though. With the iphone 4 you'd lose signal when you held it in a normal manner. I don't think I've ever held a phone in the way you need to to cause that in the Sensation...

No lie I can't get the same results. I don't lose signal at all. Maybe it's not the phone but certain people. Idk but I love my sensation

IDk I have two of them and we love the units but have the same issue on both.
also one keeps droping the sd card it says that there isnt one in when there is we have tried taking it out and putting it back and even bought a new card.
t mobile says they should replace the phone but they dont have any

FWIW, I get about a 5-7dBm drop in signal strength when holding the bottom half of the phone in the palm of my hand, and the Sensation has about 8-10dBm weaker signal than my Motorola Defy in the same area. My Defy can remain steady at about -53dBm at my house.

I was able to get some of that loss back with the antennae mod I did with my Droid:

If looking at the back of the phone, towards the bottom, the right-most hole (of the two) is an opening to the GSM antenna. Using about a 4" long twist tie to that connection got me 4-5dBm improvement. I may try to get something more permanent and flat connected to the cover if I wind up keeping the phone.

Ok regardless of slight drop in signal strength I still don't see this as a big deal. I have pretty big hands and I can't make this thing drop signal. Also there is no way in hell I'll have a twist tie connected to my phone.

Fair enough, but twist tie was for proof of concept. While it may not be as bad as the iPhone, it seems like the Sensation is more susceptible to interference, and has a generally weaker reception capability (as with all other HTCs I've tried) compared to other phones, on other carriers. As always, it may be an issue for some, when in a marginal signal area.

called Tmobile and they called HTc they are now listing it as a known issue.
apparently it worse than i thought depending on how you hold it it can cause you to loose signal, or all wifi or all Bluetooth.
they said its not a bad batch issue its all units

Not surprising...given the antennae size(s).

Just like other phones ive only has issues when the signal is weak to begin with. With a strong signal i have not been able to effect it.

I tried and tried and was finally able to kill the signal, but I can't possibly imagine ever holding the phone that way in normal use. So I suppose a "death grip" does exist but unlike the iPhone 4 it's not anything near a common grip. To me it's a non-issue...

wee i have larger hands and it a issue with me.
the only way i can avoid it is to hold th phone with my middle and thumb using the index to support the back.

its a huge design flaw that the back has to be open. im wondering how it will be affected with a case

Never had any problems yet.. but curious, so I have tried to duplicate the problem.. It's not easy.. in fact it's very difficult (at least on my phone).. it's so difficult, that I have decided the "problem" is not a problem.

+1...AGAIN
I must be don't it wrong but I can't make it drop signal at all.

My phone wont drop a signal, but it will drop wifi signal if I hold it in my palm and press rather hard against the top of the back. Who holds their phone like that though? I have my wifi on all the time at home and never have issues with it dropping signal cause of how I am holding it.

When holding the phone normally (as I would for talking) I don't see signal drop, wifi drop, or anything. But when I turn the phone sideways to play a game (since a lot of games are horizontal view) I lose wifi signal if I hold the phone comfortably. I have to put my index finger of my left hand at the top edge of the phone, my ring finger (4th finger) on the bottom edge, and my middle finger on the back of the phone for support in order to NOT lose wifi signal.

The antennas are at the top of the phone near the speaker. It is possible to block the signal when holding the phone sideways with your hands there. With that being said, the signal has to be weak to begin with for that to be the case. However, a lot custom ROMs have addressed this issue and boosted the performance of the antennas.

The Iphone's problem was due to the way the antenna was designed, not electrical connection to your hand. The geometry of the antenna made for poor coupling of the EM field into the coil. Your hand cannot block EM fields well enough to stop the signal like what is happening UNLESS it is so weak to begin with, it might as well be gone.

As a test, I put a sheet of lead over the back of the phone and had no issues with signal strength at all. This is because the EM field will pass through the front of the phone as well as the back. Now, holding the phone in such a way that causes the coupling between the EM field and the antenna WILL cause a loss in signal strength IF the antenna is designed poorly.

So far, I have not noticed any death drip scenario. My guess is that people are getting faulty phones.

Sensation's antana is connected to the back case. Did you check the connection between phone and back case? I know is little tricky to put the back case back, just need to be extra careful.

The WiFi antenna is not the same as the others. A case, hard or gelled will cause a drop in WiFi signal. So if you hold the phone in landscape position your left hand will cover the WiFi antenna and cause signal drop. Any case will also cause drop in any position. I am going to modify my case to improve WiFi reception.
